I've never done any saltwater fishing other than offshore charters. I live on the coast now and am looking into doing some pier or surf fishing. What are the differences between salt and fresh? Heavier rod/reel combo? Different baits? Any tips?

I'm in the same process of learning salt water fishing. Basically, I've learned to hang a live shrimp off of a hook and see what eats it.

Reason being, with fresh water, you really dont have to go looking all over the place for fish. Don't need a boat or anything either.

One requires skill; whereas, the other requires multiple freezers.

Key - don't lip what you catch in salt water.

Any fishing is a good time. I could easily revert back to my teenager days of wading a river with a zebco 33 and a white red.dot beetle spin.
Id go shimano, theyre good with the constant battle of salt
