Loyal to a fault. His only weakness is he's loyal to a fault. I can think of a lot worse things in a coach than being too loyal.

He has been a weasel on too many occasions, will not accept the blame for mistakes that are unforgivable. Treated some of the players unfairly, and is stubborn beyond belief. Opinion of Miles has nothing to do with love for one's team and school. The Natl. Ch. is unforgettable and unforgivable.

You shouldn't forgive him, just find a new team..

Miles is such a great recruiter that everything else pales in comparison - Just Win Baby! He reminds me of Dale Brown in his prime as LSU's basketball coach. Put him up against Coach K and we all know the result - similar to Miles against Nick Saban...... Just kidding!

Miles is the best coach LSU has ever had and he is one of the best in the business. No detractors within the fan base IMO. Getting rid of Les Miles would be crazy and stupid. However his coaching performance in BCS championship game makes you wonder..... WTF was he thinking?

Didn't like to quote the analogy, but this is what frustrates me about LSU fans and their dislike for Miles.

They act as if every single thing he does HAS to be perfection. If not, then he's not the man for the job.

I'd like to challenge ANYONE on this board to find a coach, even a hall of fame coach, that was perfect. Or didn't drop the ball a few times in their career.

You can strive for perfection, but you will NEVER achieve it. Miles ratio of good things to bad is VERY wide and he's won multiple championships.

If anyone can find a coach that is perfect and has never made bonehead mistakes, feel free to post them.

I like Les and agree he is right for LSU; however if I'm being honest I also think that he is like having a race car driver driving a 6 speed sports car that doesn't know how to get it to the 6th gear.

Pretty much how I feel about CLM. I love the guy but, Those WTF is this guy thinking moments are difficult to handle some times. When he decides a square peg is gonna fit in a round hole you might as well just let it go.

This got me to laughing. Sometimes I think LSU has the next Knute Rockne and other times I wonder if Carl Spackler from caddy shack isnt out there. The Cha Cha moments drive us all nuts. I guess Im just gonna have to learn to laugh at these moments.

Every single head coach in history has had detractors. Nick Saban has them. Yet you think that Les has done enough to be held above all questions? Is he some all time greatest coach now?

Did anyone ever answer this?

Original Poster (i.e., the dude who started the thread we are replying in).

And does CLM still have detractors? Yeah, a lot of them are in this thread, lol.

no, this is true...most of them are young and just don't really understand how college football works. This is by far the greatest era of LSU football in my lifetime...and as a fan over 3 decades now. There are some older fans on here (nuts4lsu, lacour, etc....) that were very critical of miles. Some went so far as to say back in 2008 and 2009 that LSU would never win another SEC championship under miles, and would never beat another saban or meyer coached team. They have since backed off of those ridiculous beliefs....obviously.

Could never have said it better! I really like Coach Miles and a lot of what he's done at LSU. But I will never understand (and probably never get used to) those frustrating "Cha Cha" moments and decisions and use of player personnel. So am I a detractor? No. But am I an apologist, making all kinds of excuses for *CLM when he Cha-Cha's LSU out of a win (or a legitimate and competitive shot at a MNC? Never. I love LSU too much for that.

Still here, loud and proud. January just confirmed my disdain when i was starting to doubt it a little.

I just think he is bad for the university, and think many others could do the same job without the daily embarrassments

So what did CLM do to embarrass LSU today?

Personally, I have been critical of CLM...but when a certain hyper-critical segment of our fanbase insist upon spewing their demanding, perfectionist, constantly moving-the-goalposts drivel, CLM looks like fricking Einstein compared to them.

character flaw

I don't see anything wrong with the LM's character and it seems with the team's results since 09, the players don't either.

Not saying Miles doesn't

You could have fooled me...seems the main thrust of your comments was to question whether Miles was winning the "right way".

Hey, if you want to pick one game out of bout a 100 and use that one game as showing some kinda HC "character flaw", knock yourself out. I think it's a flawed thought process to do that, but each to our own.

Yes, and I was one of them.

Can't speak for others, but I have. Obviously, the last two seasons are strong evidence in his favor. It would be silly to ignore it.

To answer your question in a more general sense, yes, he probably still has critics. No coach is above being criticized. But I doubt there is a significant portion of the fan base who actually want a coaching change.

no, I don't believe there is. However, you do still have a few idiots in the fanbase like some of the ones that posted here in this thread. Of course, those people aren't likely to make a difference at LSU, and I'm sure VERY FEW, if any, of their $$ help support the program. Whether you like the guy or not, you cannot ignore what he has done at LSU...and is the winningest coach in history, and a high character guy. He has lost a total of 1 single game ooc in his 7 years at LSU...and that was a game they probably don't lose if played on a decent field. It amazes me that there are people out there that still find fault. Yes, the NC game was a head scratcher...and I don't like the fact that he never owned up to making many mistakes in that game....but I wouldn't want any other coach at LSU. If things go as planned and as I honestly expect, this will be the best LSU team in LSU history, and LSU will be playing for the NC for the 3rd time in his 8 years, with his 4th West Title, 3rd SEC Title, and 6th top 10 finish in 8 years....as well as a record of approximately 89-18....88-19 at the worst.....yeah, people who criticize that are idiots.
