How many losers of national championship game went on to win it the next year???

In 1986, Miami had a regular season much like LSU's this past year, dismantling almost every opponent they played, and they ultimately headed into the national championship game ranked #1. However, again, much like LSU this past season, they laid an egg in the title game, turning the ball over 5-6 times (I think). They lost the game to Penn State 14-10.

The next season the Canes came back with a vengeance, winning every game and going on to beat Oklahoma in the national championship game.

It can be done. The similarities are definitely evident.

My thoughts exactly - Tigers are hungry this year and have the Team to go all the way to Miami.

All you people who really think the ONLY reason we lost is bc JJ sucked are lying to yourselves. Lee would not have won that game for us. Bama was better prepared and, let's face it, they wanted it more than we did. They were the better team on that day.

Furthermore, there was one good QB on the roster last year... He'll be the starter this year.

Miles is clearly the reason they lost the national itle, let's be clear about that! People keep attacking Jordan Jefferson, that kid can only do so much, besides he was nervous as hell in that game. It's up to Miles to get him relaxed early by calling roll outs and having him run or pass, and throwing downfield to a talented Mr. Randle! LSU did none of that, you are down at halftime you are supposed to make the neccessry adjustments at the half to get your team back in the game. Miles stubbornly tried to continue to run downhill against a defense built to stop the run. he didn't spread the field and attack them passing which I think would have killed them because Hightower and UpShaw can't cover Ware or Ford out the backfield. Sheperd was not even used, how do you explain that? He and beckham could have caught fast hitting passes on slants attacking Bama downfield! And he could have gotten the flag thrown on Kirkpatrick numerous times by throwing to Randle downfield. Kirkpatrick is a liability in coverage as will soon be discovered in the NFL, Randle would have eaten him up going long! Instead Miles played right into Saban's hands by doing none of that!

Miles deserves most of the blame obviously for a horrible offensive game plan. The offensive line also played like garbage and might have had the worst performance in the game. I think the offensive line is what truly limited the team as they had tons of stupid penalties and missed assignments. Neither Jefferson or Lee were very good QBs. Jefferson was probably the best suited to handle the poor offensive line play as Lee might not even be alive today had he been inserted into the game . Jefferson had a horrible game which was made even worse by the horrible game plan as you stated and the fact the offensive line sucked. Plus Lee now gets to be this mythical QB legend for some of tiger nation even though he never really was a dependable QB the team could lean on.

Honestly if LSU had used the exact same offensive game plan Bama used in the game they would have been much more successful. It was frustrating as the whole offensive unit just didn't show up.

You would think the motivation of the NC would have kept them hungry at the time, but I guess the ridiculousness of the BCS selection of Bama got to them.

Too bad he didn't have anyone on the bench that he really like. You know, someone he thought had a great throwing motion and great accuracy. Someone who he might have felt had a great chance to even be successful at the next level.

wait...

6 incompletions out of 17 att and a couple were throw aways.
Some reads were missed and bad decisions made, but there was a lot of crimson in the LSU backfield.
