I wonder if GRRM has weighed in on this Raganrok theory.
If I had to guess he may have drawn some things from it, just as he drew some things from the War of the Roses, from the black dinner, from the beggar king, etc.
But I don't see him doing a full blown re-telling of Raganrok, just as he didn't do a full blown retelling of any of those.

Agreed. It would be highly out of character for Jon to become a Mel drone and go against everything he stood for. I believe he will be the uniting force, not the dividing force, of Westeros. He's not going to become Uncat . Many of those parallels to mythology are spot on, and some are pure Martin. I doubt he's going to copy and paste mythology and not be original.

Yeah, he has definitely borrowed parts from history and possibly mythology...but like you I think (hope) that he won't steal the entire story of Ragnarok. It would be pretty disappointing if he did.

Well obviously, but I'm saying not dealing with R&L the characters, not the theory, is the flaw.
Regardless of whether or not R+L=JS, R and L are very important pieces in setting everything in the SOIAF into motion.
That was my point.
Like I said, it's an awesome look at a parallel myth, and gives some good background, but I don't think ASOIAF will follow the Norse myth as closely as the writer predicts if R and L have no mirror in that myth. They're too important to the Song even if our theory is wrong.

This. Perhaps John's parentage is not important at all.

This kinda makes me upset. So instead of reading ASOIAF I should just read Norse Mythology. Oh wait, I've already read a ton of it. So frick I can read up on how it all played out and know how all of this ends?
ETA: furthermore, GRRM made a career off of ripping off Norse Mythology

I just read this theory today, and if it happens then frick GEORGE MARTIN. It scares me bc it reeks of something he would do, take all the characters he spent 5 books making the readers emphathize with, and then make them evil duped drones.
That being said the theory does have a couple of holes. For example it all hinges on Bloodraven being the evil mastermind of the entire Lord of Light religion, manipulating events from afar with his sorcery. So far nothing we've seen him or Bran do even remotely hints at powers of reanimation or being able to produce shadow assassins, both of which we've seen red priests do. I also have trouble believing he'll make a 14 year old crippled boy the main antagonist and threat to the safety of mankind.
Also to make Rhaegar and Lyanna have no bearing on the outcome of the story, along with the whole prophecy of "the dragon has three heads", would just be a giant 5 book red herring. At that point it's not a plot twist its fricking bad storytelling

You know Martin has written other stuff than ASOIAF right? That guy did a bunch of work trying to tie the two things together, but much of that is making pretty wide and vague comparisons between the two. I seriously doubt Martin goes that route.
Martin generally goes for realistic endings in his books and stories, neither really happy nor really sad.

I still think George needs to reveal it though, it's been driving us all crazy the past 5 books.

GRRM has said in interviews that he reads the forums and some have figured it out. However, he hasn't let that change the overall story or the telling of it (supposedly).

I wonder if he reads this thread .

Hey George,
Sorry i called you a "twat," but if you dont finish these books before you die, I'll call you much worse. And dont follow that Norse mythology stuff to the letter. Its stupid. Except Thor. If you want to have a Thor cameo im sure Chris Hemsworth would be down. He's cool as frick.
Thanks,
Ash
P.S. Lose some weight
P.P.S. If you want to include Ash Williams in there to kill some of the zombie wights, let me know, im down.

Forgot to tell y'all, but on the Winter Is Coming Facebook page, they confirmed that filming in Iceland starts soon, and that they wanted to film there this summer rather than wait till winter like last year.
Maybe they're actually going to develop Jon's story more, and with Stannis coming to the Wall, maybe they figure they'll need to shoot more than 3 hours/day there (the producers said usually when they film in winter that Iceland only has 3 hours/day of sunlight).

That scene is going to be great to watch next season....BUT like I said, the show is going to need to bring back the original Mountain actor, and heavily discuss why he's so evil, show him being violent, etc. to eventually setup that scene with Oberyn.
I would think most Hodors have forgotten who the Mountain is, or don't see him as a threat because he hasn't appeared since Season 2 and we barely saw him even then.

I agree. By coincidence, earlier today I caught a bit of the episode in the 1st season where he kills his horse (cuts the head clean off I think). And then he was about to demolish Loras before the Hound stepped in.
They had a pretty good start in making The Mountain a bad arse. Too bad the actor had that other commitment and the guy they brought in just physically wasn't up to the part I think.
But yeah, if they get the original actor or can find someone very big, intimidating and can pull off the evil stuff they should build his rep slowly up heading towards the fight.

I hope the show will do a better job with that next season.
And where the hell is Ser Kevan?! Are the producers leaving him out too??

He was in season 1, doesn't really have much impact or purpose to re-cast him until after Tywin dies.
