there are instances of both:
House - Roose Bolton - Ramsay Snow becomes Ramsay Bolton (or did Robb do this?)
King/same House - Aegon IV - all his bastards & Robb - Jon

Tommen Baratheon legitimized Ramsey as part of payment for the Red Wedding
Jon was legitimized by Rob Stark as king of the North so it unknown how much credibility it will hold.
If Jon Snow comes back as an undead Targaryen/Stark badass, I don't think it will matter much

I think King can legit, at Lord of House request,(Ramsey) or at request of bastard in absentia (Jon)

None in the south, not that he would be drawing much support from there anyway unless he's a Targ. Only the Northern Houses/Wildings/Stannis(Iron Bank) will be backing Jon as of now so it really doesn't matter if they recognize him as legit or not.

Stannis offered to Legit Jon and give him Winterfell as a bribe. Noone knows who Robb named yet for sure- he hinted it would be Jon.
IIRC. Been a while.

Have been rereading GoT. When Jon first sees Jaime in Winterfell he says, "he looks like a king" and GRRM put that in italics.
Foreshadowing? Any chance Jaime becomes king at some point, even for a short while?

Also, read what Jaime is wearing at the time.
He wore crimson silk, high black boots, a black satin cloak.
So Jon thinks Jaime looks like a king, and he's wearing Targaryen colors.

I have been doing some re-reading of Dunk and Egg and I really think that their story is too crucial to the main story line to be over looked by HBO.
I am starting to think that they are going to take a year off and make Dunk and Egg movies. It's either that or they spend damn near an entire episode explaining the Blackfyre Rebellion and the significance of Bloodraven. I think that the richness of the story will be too much for the show to handle without an outside source. I think about how many times I had to reread the family trees to appreciate the Blackfyre rebellion's characters and I just dont think that is something you can do with a quick scene in the series.
I know that this will all rely on the premise of Varys being a Blackfyre, but I just don't think the show can hit home very well without that back story. The only option will be that Benioff and Weiss just skip this backstory completely, making the 3EC just a mystic character and Varys just a Targ sympathizer.

Yeah a D&E HBO mini-series like Band of Brothers would be great, maybe in between ADWD and TWOW. Hopefully they'll all be written up at that point, though I won't hold my breath.

So far they were ok, really just for back story. I'm half way through the third though.

I've been thinking how great it would be to have a straight out Twyin/Roose war. Like give them each 1000 men and each a castle about 50 miles apart and see who comes out on top.
I think it's just that the actors for those two characters have been doing such a great job. But they just seem so much more competent than everybody else. (Maybe throw Randall Tarley in there too).
Of course they've been on opposites sides and on the same side already in SOI&F so who knows how it would play out. And it seems very strange but in a way Roose has outlived Twyin by, of all things, being a marginally better father.

Question: do we know how Melisandre got her paws on Lightbringer, and even if it actually is the actual sword Azor Ahai used?

im pretty sure she just used a random sword or Stannis's sword to "recreate" Lightbringer (in the ceremony where they burned the 7 statues of the gods)
which is why Maester Aemon points out to Sam that he doesnt think the sword is actually Lightbringer because it gives off no heat, it only shines
