The end of season two on the show would back that theory.
I agree. But that scene definitely came out of nowhere. Was hoping Sam the Slayer would step up, but I guess we can wait for the awesomeness that will be Season 3.

Snow zombies.
They are the Frozen Dead of Westeros.

Im pretty sure that the wights are controlled by the others

And I still think that if the Others are NOT bastardized Greenseers/Children of the Forest themselves, they are the creation of GSs/TCotF.
If the former, similar to what happened to Elves becoming Orcs in TLotR...they were driven further and further North as Westeros was taken out from under them and had to use magic to adapt or perish...magic tainted with anger and fear, inducing horrific side effects and their hatred of the invading humans driving not only the will to survive, but to eliminate the virus-like species from the continent altogether...to return to the 'proper' order of things...
if the latter, maybe a "Super Soldier" or last-ditch attempt to fight off the Andals (after they invaded, ignoring the treaty made with The First Men)finding a way to re-animate the humans' own dead to rise against them...only they also re-animated their own dead, who turned out to be different beings altogether..
It wouldn't be the first time their magic didn't work out like they wanted it to (ie, The Neck/ destruction of the Arm of Dorne)

Now THIS is something I've never thought of, and truly would LOVE. I'm going to go back and read his conversations with Jon, which would be even more epic than they already are if true.
But, off the top of my head, wouldn't Mance being at the feast at Winterfell with Robert and the Lannisters make this VERY dangerous?? If he was spotted, everything would have gone to hell in a flash. This could be a problem for that theory.
Yeah, no way Mance would risk getting around people who would almost certainly recognize him. Highly doubt this theory is true.
The problem with that theory is that Dayne was one of the top 5 most recognizable people in Westeros, there is no way in hell he could reboot himself somewhere else in the realm, much less at the Wall. Every retired knight who took the Black would know him on sight, Mormont included.
It's one thing to hide out across the sea like Selmy, quite another to do it in your home lands.

Yeah I am of the opinion that Mance is just Mance. The Night's Watch recall his story very well and I doubt they would still be lying to protect him if he was indeed Dayne.

Agree completely. I've said all along that the CoTF are more sinister than they let on. There is something odd and dark about them and Bloodraven

I don't think so. In the D&E novellas it isn't only Bloodraven who has green dreams, in fact there are about 3 Targs who do including him. The CotF are definitely good guys, keep in mind they and the First Men were fighting off the Other way before the Targs came on the scene. Remember that the last Other invasion was before the wall was built, the first men and the CotF were on good terms still after calling their truce.
That being said, we do still have the underlying conflict of North vs South and the old gods vs new. The story isn't going to wind up in one big protagonist/antagonist showdown, the others are the main story line but it isn't at all confined to just that. I feel like people expect everyone to take sides, if that did happen there would certainly be nobody siding with the others and we know that from what little history is given. Plus they are being warded out of the cave by the greenseer and the wights fled from his flock of crows.

I understand all that and you're right the literature most definitely backs all that up but I've just got a feeling that all is not right with the children.
My personal theory is that they are angry about being driven out of their home and forced to live beyond the wall they built. So they have decided to join forces with the others to set the world back to rights.
And we don't know for a fact that the cave is warded against the wights. All we know for sure is that the wights don't enter. Whose to say a treaty of some sort has been reached? From what I remember cold hands seems to fit the description of a wight and he is working for Bloodraven and company.
I just don't trust them.... At all

Cold hands skin isn't white and his eyes aren't blue, plus he talks. The book says that there is some sort of ward keeping them out, plus we know they flee from the crows (greenseer warged). The wall is about to come down but I doubt it has a lot to do with the CotF, they were driven north by the Andals not the building of the wall.
On the contrary I will say that everything the book is hinting at leads to Bran being a little dark right now. The prologue to tell us that warging another person is bad, summer being hostile to Jojen and Meera at first, etc...

Wait. So Old Nan is as old as Bran the Builder?

It was the Andals that pissed them off long after peace was made with The FM.
I didn't think all CotF were evil, but I have also picked up on an uneasiness with BR being in cahoots with them. Cottons view is tempting for reasons I can't easily explain or support.

The last invasion was before the wall. The founding of the nights watch is part of what drove back the other. The last time they came (when the wall was built) was like 4000 years prior I think. Old Nan says they never existed at all and are just myth I believe, or maybe that is Maester Luwin. Regardless Old Nan never witnessed them.

I've always wondered if Old Nan might be from north of the wall. Mainly just because of her stories. Although I guess everyone in the north probably hears those stories as a child.
It would be cool if she was like Osha once.

Osha did say that Hodor for sure has some giant's blood in him, and Old Nan is his grandmother or something like that, so I don't think its that preposterous.

Also, does anyone else think that Roose Bolton is incredibly miscast in GoT. I certainly don't imagine Bolton to look anything like him. I think of the villain from Casino Royale with longer hair when I imagine him in the books. Shame they couldn't get that actor to play him.
Posted on 11/15/12 at 12:32 am to OMLandshark
That would have been the perfect actor for Bolton.

I honestly just imagined him with some nasty skin conditions whenever I read the books. I like who they cast as Roose, though.
