Almost done with Dance with Dragons. I have more questions than answers now. Has there been any in-depth discussion somewhere about the Others and what is actually coming from the North, their motivation, etc, etc, etc?

Martin really hasn't given us much to work with on that. Mel's thoughts on "the Great Other", enemy of the Lord of Light, have led to speculation that maybe that's the Greenseers. Bloodraven in particular.
My big question is still whether the people of Essos have history with the Others. I think the legend of AA comes from Asshai but I'm not certain.

I was rereading the chapter with Barristan's fight with the pit fighter. Before the fight, he reminisces about the great tourney at Harrenhal. That Varys was whispering in the ear of Aerys about how Rhaegar was conspiring to depose him and was using the tourney to meet with all of the other great lords of the realm.
Was Rhaegar conspiring, he tells Jaimie that changes will made (before he sets off for the battle at the Trident) and he meant to do it a lot earlier. Rhaegar was closer to the Kingsguard, other major lords, and the common people than Aerys was. Aeyrs had not left the Red Keep since Duskendale, and was known to be crazy. I think that Rhaegar could have disposed Aerys without to much trouble.
However, what if Rhaegar was not conspiring; what if Varys was lying; why would he lie? I think that this gives more credence to the idea the Varys is/or is working for the Blackfyre because he wanted to make the Seven Kingdoms more unstable by getting rid of the Crown Prince and keeping the crazy King in charged with only young, and crazier, Viserys as heir. Varys could have put himself as Regent(or more likely the person who controls the regent from the shadows). The realm would be unstable looking for a leader, an before unknown Blackfyre could have brought everybody together.

Arya
No way...she's not been developed in the background over three books to get killed off...of course, you never know, but I think she's gonna play a major role throughout.
My crackpot theory of the day: that Jon is actually descendant of Bael the Bard (via Lyanna). Remember Danny's vision of the blue rose at the wall and Bael's leaving a blue rose after he left the Stark chick with child... and we all know his Targaryen blood lines. He is the embodiement of the song of Ice (North) and Fire (Targ) and AA, and it all comes together.

I'm thinking she dies very close to the very end of the 7th novel. Yeah, she won't die in Book 6, but I'd say her arc is leading to death at this point.

Me, Cotton, Carson, and a couple others (forgive me) have heavily debated that she'll be Jon's Nissa Nissa.

Its possible, but I'm thinking that Dany.

How about this for crackpot? Jon is Arya's Nissa Nissa. She sticks him with the pointy end of needle, creating Lightbringer. She is the Prince(ss) That Was Promised. Of course this would throw all those bloodline issues into the air. (Though I did always find it interesting that Martin described Arya as looking so much like Jon, clearly R + L = J so don't see any of that happening.)
Still, would be nice to see Arya get some sort of "happy" ending - because it certainly doesn't seem like that's on the horizon.

If Arya dies I will seriously lose it. Like punching walls and going to the hospital losing it.

I agree, Glass. It is so much more than a book to me.

Haven't thought about that one, and its plausible.

It is so much more than a book Carson. I actually feel this. Like deep inside. If Arya ever dies I will burn the fricking book.

Its probably going to happen. I don't think she's building up to a path of happiness or redemption, but rather of one of self destructive revenge.
