You don't...pure and simple. As bad as a cover up IMO. Rules are rules...would you let a walk on who never saw the field back on the team who did the same? No...

I do nothing. ASSUMING this is the same reason he got suspended last year for Auburn, this hasnt been his first time. It's not like after he got suspended for Auburn, Miles told him "OK now you start over". No, the guy had his shots. You do not under any circumstance allow him back without sitting out an entire season.
And this is not like JJ, so dont even try.

He's off the team man. It sucks but you gotta accept it and move on.

Whatever rules that are already in place. No special rules should be made. I think it all comes down to if this was his 3rd or 4th busted test. #rd he should just have to sit out his year.

Imagine us having to go through this all over again next year. Only it's the night before the season starts. Or the week of the Bama game. He is no longer on the LSU football team. That decision was made. He can't be allowed to negotiate and beg his way back on the team. Terrible precedent.
How can they throw him off the team if he isn't on it? They way I read it, he pays for his own tuition for a year, then plays next year if he's kept his nose clean.
I think its a good idea personally.

Exactly.
Assuming this was his 3rd failed test, the policy is to have a one year suspension. Maybe when Mathieu was told he'd miss the year, he decided to transfer. Then after seeing how shitty his transfer options were, he decided it was best to take his one year LSU suspension. Assuming it was his only his 3rd failed test, it would not be "terrible precedent" to let him face the punishment the university sets.

Jesus, where are yall's balls? Where is your integrity? He broke the rules MULTIPLE TIMES and you want to let him back on because he got caught and wants to change it up?
I say let him go. He had his chance. He blew it... That is life.
LSU needs to move on and so does TM. Best of luck to him in the future, I hope he figures his shite out... But his selfish actions prove that he does not deserve to play at LSU.

1. Vote of seniors and juniors (since seniors won't be around for next season)
Almost needs a unanimous vote from the honor council.

2. WEEKLY drug screenings until he leaves LSU
Weekly would be very predictable and, ironically, easier to beat. Obviously there would be a zero tolerance (if he tests positive for something for which he has a prescription, the team and personal doc better 100% vouch for the need and the level of metabolites) for a positive screen. I would say random, determined by something like the last digit of the DOW at 10 am (or whatever the check time is) - (eff it - make the number 7)if that means 10 straight days of testing or 20 days of not testing, at least he will have to be prepared to test every day.

3. Focus his community involvement on illegal substances and showing kids how he almost pissed it away and is making most of his last chance.
"Force" might be too strong here - it is still a free society, but let's say - "Strongly encourage" him to speak out to kids about the dangers of substance abuse. Having him chair (or co-chair) NA meetings for BR teens might help too.

I agree unless it was his 3rd failed test. Team rules are one year suspension. CLM has to honor that IMO

i'm not for beating him up publically at all. in fact, it may be best if he were to fly incognito.
1. get a job to help pay college expenses. get loans to finish the rest.
2. periodic drug testing. he must prove to the coaches and himself he has the discipline to lay off the stuff until his goals are met.
3. work toward his degree.
this is tough since i'm not sure what he got tossed for but i'm going with drugs and not complying with coaches orders. i would love to see the man prove to himself he has the discipline to do it.

How can he be drug tested if he is not associated with the football team?
Remember: If he stays he will be a regular student just like everyone else. I am pretty sure that the university cannot drug test a student just because...

Letting him back would look bad for LM. He kicked him
Off the team. He stated he would not be coming back. Said nothing about a suspension. It would look like he is going back on his word. He needs to contact TM and tell him to clear up the speculation. IMO.

CLM looks bad in your eyes whether he kicks him off the team or allows him to stay. Good thing a USC's fans opinion doesn't mean shite.

As awesome as the badger is, you have to cut bait at some point. You must be careful not to set a precedent. You can end of like Miami or VT with a boatload of this type of player. I say leave it alone, it appears Miles and staff has done all they can for him. At some point he must take responsibility. He had an opportunity to rise above all the family challenges he experienced. You think he would dedicate himself to honor his grandfather by succeeding with his unbelievable talents.

Playing on the team is a privilege.
He shows up, every day (or 5 days a week) at a certain office at a certain time. The football assistant, team doc/nurse, etc., says, "Pick a number between 0 and 9" - Mathieu, "It's always 7, yo."
"Okay, 7." [Pulls up selection randomizer, my choice is the DJIA] - "The last whole digit of the index is '7' - that's a test. You know the drill." He is fully observed at this point, all the way through the delivery of the specimen. If he pulls 10 straight right (or wrong) numbers, he tests 10 straight days, but he has to be prepared every day. This discourages binging right after testing and various attempts to purge, conceal the use the next time.
Also, he gives a hair sample every other day. This discourages being "around" people who smoke.
If he fails to show, without an excuse, he's gone. If he fails to show, with an excuse, he picks 2 numbers the next time.

This. Well put.

He was presented with sitting out a year because of the 3rd test failure.
He didn't want to do that, so LSU said goodbye.
If he had a change of heart over the weekend, LSU should let him sit out the year according to the policy.
