Thats not how it works. Its about years played in college, not years out of high school.

Otherwise Brand Weedon would have been frick being 8 years out of HS and all

It is how it works - all you gotta be is 3 years out of high school. In theory someone like Deangelo Benton could have gone pro before he even gained college eligibility

Weeden stayed at OSU so long because that is just how long it took to show he was an NFL prospect.

Yes, that is how it works. Players are eligible for the NFL draft 3 years after their class graduates.

Assuming he graduated in 2002, he would have been draft eligible in 2005. Eligible is the key word, it just means he can declare for the draft at any time as long as its been 3 years since he class graduated.
