If Superman and Batman live about an hour or two away from each other(as shown on that atlas). Why wouldn't Superman help out when Bane has an entire city held hostage in an internationally televised spectacle? Batman hadn't done anything for months to help the situation so you'd think Superman would say frick it and fly in there faster than a speeding bullet, locate the bomb with his X-ray vision, fly it into orbit, and then go beat up Bane and the gang.
they have regional contracts that they've signed with the justice league
superman cant go to gotham unless invited by batman and vice versa
but anyone can go into the water, if its international waters, so aquaman gets screwed

Regional contracts seem like a good idea for marketing and media rights, but Gotham was about 2 seconds away from being obliterated.

Sometimes you have to let Little Brother figure it out on his own.

its cool tho, bc if the bomb wouldve gone off, supes wouldve just flown around the world to go back in time and stop it, he can always play that card if batman doesnt get it right
in fact, i like to believe that the events in TDKR actually happened several times, with superman constantly hitting the rewind button until batman finally got it right

This is why Superman had a dumb ending. Spinning the Earth backwards would just screw up peoples heads for a few minutes and probably some rivers and tides. Time is universal and not dependent on Earth's rotation.

wait, are you claiming that spinning the earth backwards does NOT reverse time?
im sorry sir, but as the movie clearly showed, you are mistaken

i always pictured gotham as NYC and metropolis as CHI
Same here. Smallville is clearly midwest, and he moves to the big city. What else could it be but Chicago?

If I remember correctly, tje JLA vs. Avengers comic touched on this. Metropolis was located where New York is in the Marvel universe. They also stated that the DC Earth is smaller than the Marvel Earth.

thus making it easier to reverse time by flying around it

Probably because that description sounds like a superman movie.

Impossible. Nolan doesn't make mistakes...ever.
No they were meant to be Illionois plates, the one on the Lambo was personalized.

This bugged the shite out of me

just an oversight on their part probably; I think they are supposed to be their own cities in the northeast US, but to my knowledge, they have never pinpointed what state they would be located.

Metropolis is the NYC of DCU (despite NYC existing and being a home of the Teen Titans back in the day)
Gotham is in New Jeresy and Bludhaven is south of Gotham.

Yes, metropolis is NYC in scale, but it seems that you are just making that comparison.
Do the comics really pinpoint Gotham as being in NJ?
edit - I read the wiki page and it does say the DC Atlas puts Gotham in NJ.

You could be right it could be on the other side of Gotham, but Gotham by most accounts is in NJ
Bludhaven being a sister city is key here
quote:
Maps, character conversation, and implied travel times have repeatedly represented Blüdhaven to be both south of and located close or adjacent to Gotham City, home to Batman.[1] Some published maps of the two cities fit corresponding points on the New Jersey coast: Gotham's geography fits the Little Egg Harbor area of Ocean County and Galloway Township in Atlantic County, while Blüdhaven fits in to the area of Atlantic City or Brigantine Island. Its metropolitan region is divided between two DC Universe-specific counties, named Haven and Avalon,[2] neither of which is a county in any Mid-Atlantic State in a similar locations, though Avalon, New Jersey is a real place near Atlantic City.
little hard to see here, but the jist is the cities are neighbors.
