I guess I've eaten there about ten times or so. I think it's perfect for what it aspires to be. And that is a traditional neighborhood cafe'/restaurant. It reminds me of places that were still open when I first moved to New Orleans (just after the Pleistocene Era). Both in atmosphere and the variety of the menu.

glassman can wax eloquently on the virtues of the hamburger so I'll leave most of that to him. I'll just say it's damned good.

The catfish, chicken and pork dishes are all topnotch. The sides are great. But the best things are the specials each night . . . whether it's homemade meat loaf, stewed chicken, whatever. The salads are terrific. The bar serves some nice cocktails.

I'm not touting it as the best place in New Orleans in its price range, but I am saying it's turning out to be a reliable place to go if you live Uptown.

I've been twice, and both times were really good. One thing I find funny is that it's the only restaurant I've ever heard of where everyone raves about the pickles. I mean, they're awesome, but it's funny that they're the thing that everyone raves about.

They do have a really good spiciness to them. I really like the place. When I can order a burger rare it really makes me happy. The crabmeat and watermelon salad is as close to a perfect summer dish that I can imagine.

I forgot to mention them. My wife and I were there Saturday night and we both remarked about their goodness.

Awesomeness for sure.

Am I going to meet this mythical creature? Or is better to not do so?

I like it a lot too. Their Satsuma pie and Sweet Potato salad are both game changers. Their burger is way up there and it is cool with very reasonable prices.

Well, in a pseudo-soccer-fan drunken haze, I may have revealed too much at Finn's. Can I trust you to shut the frick up if I introduce you to her?

-High Hat burger with pimento cheese is a must. I remember writing in another thread that I liked Company Burger a lot, but I think it is worth the short walk to go to High Hat instead. They've got the better burger in my opinion.
-Catfish is always very good.
-Boudin stuffed pork chop is killer.

Also home to one of the best racks in NOLA!

ETA: next time I go there, I will buck the trend and not get the burger

Im gonna have to go back. I can't remember what I got (not burger), but there was nothing special about this place from start to finish in my visit, but every time I see it on the board people are raving about it. I guess I got to go again because my tastes are usually in line with the rest of civilized society.

Things I have liked:

Of course, they make a very good burger.

Apps/Small plates
gumbo ya ya, shrimp remoulade wedge salad, hot tamales

Main dishes:
catfish, slow roasted pork

PLUS: They have very good daily specials on the board and I'm just as likely to get one of those . . . everything from special salads (watermelon and crab is great) to hot specials like oldfasioned meatloaf, stewed chicken, etc.

A couple of specialty cocktails, as well

Again, it's a very pleasant place with solid food.

well you nailed it already with the pimento cheese burger. let the drippings drop right onto the fries

I'd also recommend the tamales, but you're going to be full as frick afterwards.

I'm a big guy and can't finish their burger. If you can try their pie, they make a killer Satsuma pie.
