What is the OT's thoughts on the PSE Stinger compound bow? I have a short draw of 26" which limits my options.

I am looking to spend $600 to get started.

What's the best archery shop around the BR area?

Buy a used bow if it's your first. Save your money to replace the arrows you lose and the targets your Labrador chews up.

If you are just getting started the limiting factor isn't going to be your equipment. Even if it's second-hand stuff it's still going to be better than you at first. Practice, go buy a second-hand old man climbing stand and a ton of corn.

Find a package deal at Bass Pro in Denham that suits your needs and budget. This would be a great start for a few years.

I've said it before but Bear has some good package deals on bows. Got mine from Bowies all set up and rigged for me for around $400. Me and my dad both have short draw lengths and both shoot Bears. And they give ya a hat if ya buy one

Most guys I work with are against buying used bows. Worried about how well taken care of they were. They say if there are any problems, it could be disastrous.

Whats your thoughts?

Bow technology increases so quickly I wouldn't really buy used. Plus there's the issue of how well kept it was, it's not like a gun.

Go to your local Mathews archery shop. Bowie is good bc they carry so many bows. I encourage buying from Bowie or a smaller shop rather than the big chain. Let them measure you again and them shoot a few bows. My first was a Mission which is made by Mathews. It is adjustable down to 26 inches. I now own a Hoyt. IMO I would either buy Hoyt, PSE or Mathews.

Ask them how many deer they kill annually with their bow.

I'm just saying a new bow is a big investment. You might end up being a terrible shot, or not liking hunting when it is 90 degrees. Then you will have a hard time getting rid of your bow because a bunch of hardlegs on an Internet forum say second-hand equipment is junk.

And labs love 3d targets. Had a puppy turn a 3d buck into a pile of snow overnight once.

If you do go with a used one, take some cotton balls with ya. Rub them all over the limbs. If it catches on any fibers, then sit the bow down and walk away. Pretty good practice to do this on new bows as well. Just a lil fyi

Spillway Sportsman has a few Bowrech Destroyers left and they are on sale for $700. I just sold my Hoyt CRX and made the switch. Great shooting bow, smoother and quieter than my Hoyt was.
