Silver Moon was the BEST!

We always thought of it as "soul food". Everything was fried or smothered, cooked in greens, just enough "kick"! I loved the mis-matched silverware, chipped plates and rickety tables. We used to sit there under a ceiling fan, eating and sweating until we were stuffed then go back to the apartment to crash. That's been 20 years ago and I can still taste the smothered pork chops and black-eyed peas...

I'm also not too proud to admit that I miss the heck out of Gatti's $5 buffet w/your ID. Oh and Great Wall was LEGIT!

Silver Moon Cafe

Is that the one on Drusilla? Or across the tracks?
Or am I thinking Silver Spoon?
Either way That place across the tracks..holeeeeyyy shite, my friend and I used to eat there on our days off. Turky plate with greens cornbread. Loved the fact they poured coke from a 2L bottle. Two old ladies sitting and cooking.

I remember the Silver Moon well! I remember it was what ai would classify as soul food. It was all smothered in gravy and very spicey no matter what you ordered. It was like somebody's house. You could see the cooks in the kitchen while you sat in their living room. The portions were huge, and you always left absolutely stuffed!

Round-the-Corner. Next to where the Varsity is now. Used to get a pizza burger there with my old man before the game, walk down to watch the band come in, and go sit in the original nose bleed section to watch the game. Great memories from my youth with my Dad.

I used to love that place when I was a kid. I thought the phones at the tables you used to order were so cool. I think the last time I went there was back in the '70s.

Also, Silver Moon is(was?) awesome. I remember the beer they had was always whatever beer was on sale at the Circle K across the street. Is it completely gone now?

I used to love the silver moon. It is one of my favorite places ever in BR. I had my LSU graduation dinner there. The family told me I could eat wherever I wanted and I said

"we are going mooning!"

I miss Silver Moon, but never really went there on game day. That was lunch.

We used to hit Giamanco's on game weekends when my grandfather and I came in from the Northshore, and Hi-Ho in Hammond on the way home.
