I'm sure this has been discussed here before, but I have was banned for several months and found nothing searching. Personally I'm torn between Townes and Hank Sr. Maybe one day I'll make up my mind, but for the time being both are too brilliant to choose one or the other. What say the music board?

Damnit, yall are going to make me get up in the morning and bump this back up. I was kind of hoping some other music loving folks would be up this late drinking too. I guess not.

Jamey Johnson writes most of his songs. As for best country songwriters ya got to throw Billie Joe Shaver's name in the hat too. Dude wrote some good stuff

I always thought of Townes as more of a folk artist than country.
Nobody really compares to Hank Williams.
Recent stuff, I like Chris Knight.

James McMurtry is a big favorite of mine.
Old REK, Steve Earle when he was still doing meth, Guy Clark
