This is one of those weird deals where I can see both sides to it.
He's overhyped by a lot of the media, as he's basically just a super dunker and good rebounder, but poor defensive player and limited otherwise.
But on the other hand, he sells tickets and he's super popular, so there's value to paying someone like that, because he will help your bottom line. He's also super young and still developing, so he will get better.

He's worth that in terms of the revenue he generates

yeah when was the last time the clippers had a superstar (in terms of publicity)?
everything they've done since they realized what they had with BG was to sell him this extension
they sent baron davis packing (and gave up the #1 pick)
they matched a MASSIVE offer to griffin's bff deandre jordan
they traded some other pieces for paul, immediately prior to their window to re-sign griffin

The stupidity on tbis board never ceases to amaze me.

i'm not a griffin fan, but he's a media superstar and may become an actual superstar one day
shipping baron davis off and eating that cost shows how badly they didn't want griffin corrupted

Kevin Love is cursing the shite out of his agent right now

If you're the Clippers, you absolutely cannot afford to let Paul AND Blake walk. (Not saying Paul will bolt, just saying that both of them leaving would pretty much bury their franchise for the foreseeable future)
Griffin is young and has potential to get much better. He's also a legitimate superstar in the league as far as recognition and name power goes.
Is it excessive? Sure, but I can't think of any reasonable alternative.

I mean, I think Griffin is a good player, and if Chauncey(sp?) Billups and everyone can stay healthy the Clippers will be very good THIS year, and he is one of their better players. But 5 years $95 million!?!?!?!? That is A LOT

He is worth every penny in my mind. He is 23 and is coming off two consecutive 20/10 seasons where he shot over 50% and he is 6 ft. 10 and weighs 250. I can't believe people think this is a bad deal for the Clippers.

People want him to shoot threes.

I agree. They couldn't afford to let him go to another team.

no one here is saying he's Tim Duncan...we understand that he's not the best player

No, I want a PF that is making 95m to be able to make a 5 foot jumper

The Clippers have officially been eliminated from championship contention for the next 5 years. Good move CP3.

Yep. 21 and 12 over his first 2 years in the league w/ a 22.5 PER. He's a bit of a whiner and he is often lost defensively, but he's just as good, if not better than, young pre injury Amare. You max out for that player
