At least that's according to Sigourney Weaver...

You think people will get tired of Avatar or will the films be as successful as the first film?

Yep, I can't imagine paying to see another Pochantus ripoff, much less three or four.

While the movie was visually stunning, the story and acting was sub-par. I think people will tire of it after the 2nd.

What Disney movie did they rip off the first time?

This is a horrible idea.

That being said, LOTR, Matrix, BTTF, etc all filmed back to back so its not unheard of.

It's not like they're going out on a limb that much seeing as the original made such an obscene amount of money.

I usually think its a mistake because OT doesn't give you a chance to adjust if certain things don't go over as well in the sequels. I think doing this really hurt the matrix and the pirate movies.

That being said, I don't have much interest in a avatar sequel anyway

I never heard the Pocahontas theory, only the Dances With Wolves and Fern Gully ones.

In Avatar's defense (not that I really cared for it that much), there are probably a decent amount of movies with the same type of plot.
