If you hit a ball into someone's yard, do you retrieve it?

I'm always skeptical some guy is gonna come out the door shaking his cane saying "get off my lawn"

The other part of me is saying that mild trespassing is expected and just par for the course

What say you? Also, if anyone lives on a course, how do you feel about it?

Retrieving the ball over the fence is about 8/10ths of the joy of backyard baseball, IMO.

I'll take a couple of steps into a yard if it's a large yard, and I usually take my hat off or something to show respect if at makes sense

you play the ball as it lies, regardless of consequences

this

i'll make sure not to drive up onto the yard, but me walking on it to retrieve the ball won't hurt anything.

Half the time i need to apologize for whatever my ball hit anyway

Depends on how far I have to go into their yard. If it's on the edge and I can easily get it, I'll go. If I took down half their roof with the ball, they can have it.

If they aren't outside I will. I won't hop a fence. I also assume we are talking about golf balls.

What about bombing a ball onto a road, example LSU's #16 and you hit a car...what then?

If there is a fence, people are relaxing in their back yard or I don't know where it is exactly I won't retrieve it. If I can see the ball and it is out in the open I will pick it up.

I don't live on a course, but I feel like most people that own houses on the course would find that reasonable. If they don't want you to, I would think they would put up a fence or like the property with bushes.

Fence is off limits to enter, anything else is fair game. I have walked up to someones back door to get my ball before.

You just forget that it happened

If you see them turn around, you go play another hole and pretend it wasn't you

Yeah, I figured the fence talk went without saying

I was just talking about the ball that you can see but it's clearly in someones yard

I like to hear the answer to this too. I've never come close to hitting a car but my friend shanked a ball next to a road Saturday and almost went right into a car's windshield. I would've had no idea what to do.

I've never jumped a fence, but I'll definitely keep my cart a good distance from their yard and walk up to get it.

I would think you have to be pretty hypocritical to buy a house on a golf course and get upset when a golf ball enters your yard.
