Rivers has a whole year to develop and push himself along. He has an NFL arm, and an NFL lineage...give him time...he could be another Clausen, He could be another Manning, He could be somewhere in between...who knows...give him time to do his thing...same with Randall. I would have liked to have seen if Liggins could have pushed either of them...but I guess that might be a pipe dream now barring something completely unforeseen. I do not think Rettig will get a serious look however...The team next year will still be a team that could challenge for the SEC West and I think Miles would treat it as such giving the reins to the more experienced players...not every freshman is a Tebow, or Jamarcus...and even those players had someone to split snaps with.

Yet you say that Rivers

has an NFL arm

Based off of what, his high school tape?

More importantly, if he has a good year and gets drafted you have to wonder if he could have had that kind of season last year.

Probably a tad bit early for this conversation. Can we just get through the upcoming season?

Its a message board. If you want to talk about this season, start a topic. Why can't people get curious about the state of the program and its future?

He's already on scouts draft board for next year and its expected a good season at LSU could land him up near the first/second round.

its a legit conversation IMO.

Let's not become USC here where you throw a TD in a high school all star game and all of the sudden you are a Heisman candidate. USC can have Barkley and all the hoopla, I'll take Mettenberger

If mettenberger has a good year

He has to have a great year with our running game, Defense, and ST.

gets drafted

He would need to be at least a top 2 round projected pick to leave early.

I honestly couldn't tell you at this juncture, Rivers would likely be in the mix for sure.

Mett getting drafted means great season means national championship means I'm happy.

Neaux, we need to worry about ensuing quarterback controversies even if they are years away.

So he'll be terrible, a hall of famer, or somewhere in between. I think he's on to something.

IF Mett goes pro and I fully expect that to be an option. Hope he doesn't take it though. I think it is almost a forgone conclusion that Rivers will get first shot and Randall will be ready to take his place at the first sign of trouble. Meaning Randall will play if we are losing a game and need an offensive spark.

I'll give you a few reasons why he stays: Upperclassmen: Matt Barkley, Tyler Wilson, Landry Jones, Geno Smith.... and underclassmen: Logan Thomas, Tyler Bray, Aaron Murray...

If Mett fell somewhere even in the 5th QB range, 3rd Rd, he'd be smart enough to come back and try to move up the ladder...

He loves it here. No reason to leave just yet... shoot, he's on college number 3, might as well graduate. I've got high hopes for the Zack Attack, I'm hoping instead of 1 and done and leaving us thinking "Did We Ever Have a Chance?" that he'll stay for 2 years and we can be "Friends Forever".

Legit debate. I expect LSU to be looking for a new starting QB after this coming season. Ill say itll be Rivers whether he is better or not

Some of u are giving up too quick on Rivers. I have seen him play he just needs some PT. I am sure glad he did not go to Bama!
