In golf, why can't you move your ball out of a fairway divot

I don't see why, if they want to make it fair, you aren't allowed to take it and drop it even with or less that a club length behind the divot in the fairway. The USGA is all about keeping the game "fair" as they say, having to hit out of a divot when you hit the ball in the fairway is not "fair".
Plus you could make the argument it's a man made hazard...

I do move my ball out of divots. So do the folks I play with.

See most of the quirky things in golf this holds true, but in this case it's the opposite, the better you are the more likely this will happen

yet, the better you are, the better you will play out of divots.

Payne Stewart always believed you should be able to. I played in a deal at his golf course in Branson, and it's a local rule that you can move it

bullshite. Play it where it lies. I had to hit it off of frankenstine's fat foot!

It's a stupid fricking rule.
You shouldn't be penalized in the fairway.
Ever.
I don't give a damn if you are Phil or a shmuck that shoots 100.

It's not stupid. It's rub of the green. As an amateur, pull it the frick out. Otherwise play that shite.

What if the ball is on the cart path?

You get a drop to the nearest point of relief

Free drop within a club length from the cart path, no closer to the hole.

I suggest everyone read the rules of golf
There really aren't that many rules to read and you'll be able to boom your buddies with knowledge

Rule 13-1...the ball must be played as it lies!!
Posted on 6/15/12 at 9:34 pm to Croacka
Nobody is arguing what the rule is, just saying you gould be able to move it
Posted on 6/15/12 at 9:36 pm to Tiger1242
I don't get your inquiry. Why should you be able to move it? To gain an advantage over your playing partners?
