With these specifications

Bass fishing
Good big game hunting (mainly whitetail)
Mountains

Yea, thats 3 good ones. Im sure there is some sweet clear water fishing out west but Im not fimiliar with it. All I ever hear about west is the california delta for bass.

My bride fell in love with Montana a few years back but im reluctant due to the lack of bass

Alabama - mid to Northern part of State if you don't mind foothills instead of mountains. The only sucky thing about Alabama is the UA and AU fans.

Idaho has all three, mountains with great elk hunting, and small/largemouth bass fishin.

If I were living in the lower 48, Kellogg, Wallace or Sandpoint Idaho would definitely be at the top of my lists.

Old mining town. It's beautiful, and near the Montana border on I-90, northern Idaho. Very pretty area.

Unless there has been an extremely large and devastating earthquake in the last 10 minutes forming some mountainous or even slightly hilly area, LA doesn't really fit his requirements.
