They struggled to run the ball early.
Week 1 they had 74 total yards, 27 carries.
Week 2 they had 71 yards, 21 carries.
Week 3 they had 107 yards, 28 carries.
Week 4 is when they took off.
IMO, when defenses had to respect the ability of Newton to pass is what gave their run game life.
