Literally everything he says matters to him, LSU has the advantage.
LSU has a fun coach but is also business like.
LSU has depth next year and he can start from day 1.
LSU will be in position to win titles year after year.
LSU runs a 4-3.
He should be an LSU lock but he isn't.

Mingo and Sam are most likely gone after this season. He would come in and probably start as a freshman.

I still don't get it. Alabama and LSU. Sure, but Clemson?? Why Clemson is in play for all these top recruits just blows my mind!
The big problem is you are looking at this as a fan and SECtard. You see Clemson as "choker" and since they don't win the NC or stay in the top 10, you think its a "shitty" team. First of all its not, but that doesn't matter, because 17 year old kids don't see it that way. They all think they are Superman and with him on board, they will win.
Its a very good program that sends plenty of guys to the NFL. Its a nice part of the country, close to where he's from. There's nothing wrong with Clemson.

Probably because he will see the field right away at Clemson. Noway he see's the field at alabama right away and i don't care how talented he is. They recruit talented players all the time that ride the pine at first. For some reason he always make it sound like he wants to go to LSU.

I take this kid at face value.
He seems to have a good head on his shoulders.
I like our chances based upon his considerations.

I think the real thing that people aren't realizing about Clemson is that RN's high school coach was a college teammate of Dabo Swinney. And while they are Bama alums, I think more kids he's coached have ended up at Clemson since Dabo's been there than Bama (granted, I don't know how many Bama has offered in that time frame or how good those players are). But that is a big reason for the connection.
And while yes, Clemson fails at every opportunity on a big stage, so much in fact that Clemsoning is now a verb to describe failing spectacularly with high expectations, they still put a lot of guys in the league.

Doesn't get any rosier if I look at it as a neutral CFB fan. That program is just not as highly regarded as the other two and will never be.
But I do understand, an athlete doesn't have the same perspective.

like our chances because he's more of a 4-3 DE in my opinion and we're just a much better 4-3 defense then Clemson, Bama runs the 3-4 and I don't see him as a Jack LB
Htowntiger will not like your opinion
Its not a matter of liking or not liking someone's opinion. That's part of the whole disconnect, you guys don't understand a different point of view and reject it as a personal attack.
The point you guys are missing is that 34 vs 43 in college is no big deal. For staters, Bama does not have only 3 on the line at all times. They play 4 guys with a hand in the dirt at least half the time. Playing DE in a 3-4, even if he slides inside when they go to 4 DL most of the time won't matter to pro scouts. If he projects as a 4-3 DE at the next level, that's where he will be drafted. It does not matter where he plays in college, 34 DE, Jack LB or 43 DE. Mingo plays 4-3 DE, but will be drafted as a 3-4 OLB. Pro scouts will not care if RN has 5 sacks and not 10.

why does Saban use it so much as a pitch to recruits?

Define "rosier". Clemson often cracks the top 10. They are in a BCS conference, which means they have a shot at the NC. That they haven't followed thru or "choke" as many will say, does not matter to a 17 year old. Him and his group will think they will win.
When Clayton, Spears, Hill all signed with LSU in 2001, do you think most people thought they would win a NC at a school that hadn't come close to sniffing one in 43 years? Has the last 10 years at Clemson been anywhere close as bad as the 10 years before 2001 were at LSU? Clemson has won a MNC more recently than LSU had at that point. I know its fun to bash teams like Clemson, but they are a major program.

im still trying to figure you out. I wonder what your motive is most of the time. Are you a grumpy lsu fan that wishes we still had saban? are you a fan of the kids, and supporting whatever they come up with? are you trying to lighten the blow that would occur if RN signed with bama? are you doing it to actually help us?
I dont disagree with any of your post fwiw, just confused about your motives.

I'm not sure what you mean, more teams in the NFL are moving to a 3-4 and Saban has had a good deal of success getting kids drafted. That doesn't change the fact that if the kid projects as a 4-3 DE in the pros, they will most likely draft him there and playing 3-4 DE will not keep him from being a high draft pick.
Unless of course you and other posters think you have a better understand of this than guys like Saban. I mean. 5 * or not, do you think they would be recruiting him so hard if he really could fit in their defense?

That State fan needs to let this kid know they have a better chance than LSU.

no. I did not want him to leave, but that was 7 years ago. I'm happy with the staff we have now.
quote:

No, i don't know any of these kids. What I'd like to do is get some to realize that losing any certain player is no big deal and there is no reason to blast a 17-18 y/old for a decision he makes with his life/

no motive, other than trying to be reasonable and I hate when people repeat cliches that sound logical but aren't true necessarily
I understand people are excited at the prospect of getting this kid, so am I. I'd love it and i don't disagree he fits great with our 4-3. I don't think we will get him and I know a lot of people will get mad and lash out. I was just pointing out there where he plays (both what position and school) in college, won't affect his pro potential at all. The notion that if he goes to Bama his pro stock will be hurt because he will be a run stuffer is just silly and not true.

Yeah we are just going to have to agree on all of that.

clemson is quietly pumping out more 1st and 2nd round DE than almost any other school

You do the same thing and act like you are always right. Your holier than thou know it all posting on this board is the same exact thing. You just try to "act" like it is different.
