When I started we hit 50/500 core balls with double wall metal bats. Now you're either hitting 40/300 or 52/275 unless you're playing in Podunk or crap league. The balls have been regulated. The bats will be even more regulated next year.

I remember playing with the old rocket balls and steel pipes for bats.

The shite they force us to use at LSU UREC won't allow anyone to hit rockets like some of those.

Hitting middle in softball = hitting middle in baseball.

Nope

When guys rocket balls at the pitchers faces in baseball it's just bad luck, but that's a risk you take playing baseball. Hitting an underhand pitch where the pitcher is standing 15 feet shorter makes it a lot more dangerous

I've seen pitchers at higher levels pitch the ball and take off running at the batter. You would be surprised how distracting that is.

We lost in the Cajun from that play. Guy struck out swinging. Called strike 2, as soon as he got the ball he screamed, threw it, and dove at the batter.

Do whatever you want. I'm just telling you why it's frowned upon. Don't be surprised if you hit the wrong person and get your arse beat.

Who's the guy at the Busch that used to do a front flip on the mound and deliver a strike? I saw some dude watch the 3rd strike on that pitch and have a meltdown.

The cow didn't die for nothing. Why not just use his glove? I seriously don't get this "lanes" you're out deal. Why not just let everyone hit off a tee? Maybe the guy that chooses to pitch needs to man up a lil

ETA; Not trying to sound like a dick ,but it is a sport and it's supposed to have a little bit of challenge involved

Anyone who says this has never pitched in a softball game against good competition.

Anybody who has played softball or baseball knows that there is a risk for injury.

I'm just saying. There is just a small percent who share the same feelings you do.

"oh I don't care, I don't see the big deal".

It's not cool. But you'll be the one that has to live with it of you hurt someone.

Not to mention putting your own pitcher at risk.

Yeah I played college baseball, but if I am pitching in a softball game and they keep hitting it up the middle, I'm pissed. Just catching grounders is scary sometimes.

I guess you arent understanding my point. I would never intentionally do it. But if it happens there isnt anything I can do about it.

It's not really the fact that it may be unintentional. More along the lines of you saying "I don't know what the big deal is"

I get that. And IF a team keeps hitting them up the middle then there if certainly a problem. Especially when you can see obvious intention.

Getting it hit up the middle from time to time is a risk that should be known though.

The lane shite though? Frick that

Its different if someone does it on purpose. And you cant always control where you hit the ball. Yeah most of the time you can but not every time so it will happen at some point.

We got screwed out of the Lonestar Finals at BLD because of that rule. Umpire was an idiot, local ump that didn't know the rules. The rule wasn't in effect for that tourney. Anyway, playing a team from Oklahoma. We're up 1 with bases loaded and 1 out, no bumps left. Guy hits a missile at P, he catches it and throws runner on 1st out. Ump calls defenseless pitcher, dead ball, batter is out. I lose it and ask if he knows the meaning of defenseless. The act of catching the ball means he made a defensive play. Next guy gets a hit, we lose.

Ok...you guys...yeah...I'll just back away on this one because we'll never agree. I've played for 14 years, league ball up to World in C. I've tried to explain it and you just don't want to listen so have a good day.

I'll admit: I enjoy making fun of softball.
