I think this year is a wash in terms of high profile QBs. If Mett passes for over 2400 yards, we'll be back on the map for a QB next year.
Right now the other coaches are saying go to LSU if you like to hand off the ball.

Ferguson is going to Clemson
Johnson is going to Auburn
Thomas is going to Oklahoma
Kincaid is left overs ....
Id much rather us take a look at Max Stavers out of Tenn. (Big frame with a big arm)
Staver should be the top guy right now imo. Big strong armed kid with a quick release that can stand in the pocket and deliver the ball downfield. He's been tearing it up on the elite 11 circuit. Whoever said he's extremely unathletic is greatly underestimating his abilities. He's appears to be about as athletic as Kiel was, imo.

LSU's QB rep right now is at an all time low. Don't take anyone right now. Let Mett go off, then push hard and get the best kid you can.

No offense, but I dont think we pull a QB out of Connecticut. I find that very unlikely

Could Devante Kincade be a diamond in the rough, AKA another Robert Griffin? I wonder why LSU isn't pursuing him or showing any interest. Considering the recent commitments to other schools, it seems like he would be a great addition to the 2013 class.

We've shown interest in Kincade. He came down for a junior day and will likely be back for camp.
Almost certainly the reason he doesn't have an offer yet is his short stature and slight build. Griffin was 3" taller and 20 lbs. heavier out of high school, not to mention a near-world-class hurdler.
But if our targets continue to commit elsewhere, I agree we should take another strong look at Kincade.

among fans and media types, but kids don't see it that way.

Kincaide may be 6-foot and slight, but...
Aaron Rodgers as a senior in HS was 5'11" and had no major college offers. He grew 3 inches in junior college, and then had one decent offer from Cal. Even as a draft pick, he was passed over until late in the first round. The rest is history.
Just saying. You never know.

Then let Kincade go to JUCO and see if he grows 3", too. But the number of kids that hit big growth spurts like that after age 18 is probably pretty low.

true, but having a 6' QB in college is not as big a deal as in the NFL.

The issue with a shorter QB to me is that we have recruited some behemoths on the OL. It is going to be tough for a guy who is 6'0" to throw over Vadal Alexander and Derek Edinburg. If we had an average college OL it wouldn't be a big deal but when your OL is NFL height your QB needs to be NFL height too.
There are exceptions like Drew Brees who can just move around and find passing lines but they are exceptionally rare.

I think that's a little over rated as a reason to be frank. Typically the QB is a few yards behind the OL when he's passing and everyone is moving around anyway. Wisconsin has a pretty stout OL and it wasn't an issue for Wilson.

It may be overrated, I can agree with that. But the perception is there at least and right or not I think it influences our coaching staff. I like Kincade and hope he gets an offer.

quote:That also assumes he's actually 6'. Ron Brooks was listed at 6' out of high school and measured 5'10" at the combine. Mo Claiborne was listed at 6' out of high school and measured 5'11" at the combine. 6' seems a lot taller than 5'11", would not surprise me at all if Kincade's height is slightly exaggerated.
true, but having a 6' QB in college is not as big a deal as in the NFL.
There's also the build issue. He's listed at 175 lbs, but doesn't have broad shoulders or a thick lower body that suggests a frame to put on much weight. Assuming he would do a decent bit of running if he played QB for us, he's gonna take a pretty bad beating at that size.
Again, I like Kincade as a fallback option later in the recruiting cycle, but still I have major questions about his size.

I know this is probably inaccurate but 247 has him at 6'2"and Rivals has him at 6'0". To me, height isn't as important as is his mechanics which makes him play taller than his height. Drew Brees is 6'0" but he plays taller due to his mechanics and arm release. In order to be successful, smaller quarterbacks are forced to have great mechanics and arm release
