re: Atlanta scraps open air stadium; retractable roof now in talks to replace Dome

I'm a Saints fan but go to ATL for games a lot. I have always liked the location of the stadium relative to the touristy areas of town, and the hotels.
I would say based on locations within the city alone, the NFC South has the best placed Stadiums. Tampa could be better. If the fans want a new stadium let them have it. That circus tent never held a candle to the Superdome anyway.
They wouldn't be able to play in it during renovations, and it would cost $870M with the new roof costing $200M by itself.

But dont build a completely new stadium right next to the current one....

. It's a pain in the arse driving all the way to the ghetto of Atlanta to watch a Falcons game when 90% of Falcon fans live outside the perimeter.
And this Ladies and Gentlemen is why Falcons fans suck.
Dude actually hates the city of the team he pulls for, wow.

Isn't all of ATL a ghetto?

Tha frick? Downtown Atlanta is a ghetto. And for the record,I hate New Orleans too. It's even worse.
And on another note for the Saints fans with their opinions, Arthur is wanting to build a new stadium because he doesn't own the Georgia Dome and is losing a shite ton of money because of it.

Maybe so, but as a visiting fan that location is AMAZING. I've been to a few games there and usually stayed within walking distance of it and nearly every attraction I visited short of stone mountain.
ETA: Also that dragon-con with the roaming band of dressed up people dancing to the guy with the speakers on him was hilarious/awesome.

I wish more cities would renovate what they have like New Orleans did. The Georgia Dome is in a perfect location with hotels, CNN Center, Philips Arena, GWCC, and two MARTA stops. They are also continuing to attract events like the Final Four next year. There is no reason to spend a billion dollars to build something new.
Yeah, but that makes WAY too much sense...

Only thing better than a new stadium with a retractable roof would be if the citizens of Doraville would quit being bitches, and let Arthur build it on the old GM plant site. You'd have sellouts every game and an awesome tailgate setup. It's a pain in the arse driving all the way to the ghetto of Atlanta to watch a Falcons game when 90% of Falcon fans live outside the perimeter.
Doraville is a terrible location for that volume of people.

No, it really isn't. But continue to think that. And keep your lame arse out there in Gwinnett.

It might be fun for vistors coming in once a year, but as far as Atlanta residents go,you have to understand the demographics. We're not like New Orleans where people embrace the downtown environment. The footprint of "Atlanta" is enormous and extends 40 miles north. The fans that will spend the money to come to the games are "Atlanta" residents but don't live in the city limits. The same thought goes for Turner Field...it's in a shite location that no one wants to go. We love Atlanta, but we love the suburbs of Atlanta where we don't have to worry about getting mugged, shot, raped or murdered.

Doraville sits right at 285, smack dab in the middle of 400, 85 & 75...what the frick are you talking about?

This sounds exactly like every single major city in the country...

I support this new stadium deal. Will be nice for the 35k Saints fans that will show up for the annual game in Atlanta.

I lived in Atlanta for 5 years while at Tech and never thought I was in the ghetto. I work down there everyday, the ride is just a bitch.
