Lamar leads the overall series with LSU, 5-1 - the teams first met in 1984 and the most recent game between the schools was on February 17, 1995 at the Winn-Dixie Showdown in the Louisiana Superdome. That game marks LSU's only victory in the series as the Tigers posted a 10-6 win in their '95 season opener. Another notable meeting between the schools came at the 1985 NCAA Central Regional in Austin, Texas when the Cardinals eliminated the Tigers from the regional with a 4-3 victory.

I went to one of the games in the early 90s when I lived in Beaumont and Lamar won that one as well obviously

I was at the 95 game and Lamar's left fielder went beast mode (2 long Hr's). They use to play it at the same time Delgado had their big invitational tournament and us Juco players where invited to the game I guess for recruiting purposes.

Not sure what the "controversy" was, but seems like when the Lamar and Texas played in the NCAA's in either 1984 or 1985 there was some call/play that Lamar screamed about and was mentioned for years in the rare NCAA baseball telecasts off and on.

I miss the Winn-Dixie Showdowns. Whatever happened to those?
