Cabin in the Woods. Go see it before you know anything about it.

Every critic said this will be a movie that you don't want to know about before you see it, and they were right. Camp, horror, sci fi, mystery....it has it all.
Wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I agree
I didn't read anything about it and loved the movie after seeing it, some of my friends who read all the reviews didn't like it

This was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. The last half hour blew my socks off. Richard Jenkins was dynamite.

First, let me say that I know ZERO about this movie. I have heard that it was supposed to be the next great horror, that it is a parody like Scream, that it is really good, and that it sucks. BUT, I know absolutely nothing about what the movie is about. I haven't read any actual reviews, and I have NOT seen any trailers.
SO, please tell me why I should see this... without telling me what it is about.

I haven't seen the movie, but I still can say with absolute certainty that the trailers give away too much.

saw it yesterday and barely remembered seeing a trailor for it. it was described to me as an adult hunger games so thats all i knew going in. this was an incredible move experience and the most fun ive had at a movie in a long time.

It's really fun. That's pretty much all you need to know.

i guess i didn't get it, i thought it was incredibly stupid and the pot head guy was terrible, it was clear he'd never gotten high in real life.

People who don't know anything about horror movies aren't going to get it. If you go in knowing that it's going to be poking some fun but also an actual horror movie like Scream or Evil Dead then I can't see how you'd come out unhappy. Just don't go in expecting straight horror or straight comedy.
ETA: FWIW the pothead character acted exactly like one of my friends when he got really high

The reason you should see it with no spoilers:
quote:
GQ.com: You've called Cabin In The Woods a "loving hate letter" to horror films. What tropes particularly annoy you? Joss Whedon: Drew and I are enormous horror fans but we both lamented the trend in torture porn and dumbing down with characters falling more and more into stereotypes. Take the ad campaign for a movie called Captivity, where the billboard showed basically kidnap, torture and execution, in that order. That encapsulated the way I felt horror movies were going: they were becoming this extremely nihilistic and misogynist exercise in just trying to upset you, as opposed to trying to scare you. The classics that Drew and I went back to - the [John] Carpenters, the Nightmares -it seemed they had a different intent: it was not strictly about shock value.

Going after work today can't wait. Scale of 1-10 how scary is it? I've heard it's really good but haven't heard much on the scare factor part of it.

1, it's so fake it's not even scary

I'd give it a 4 maybe. It has a few jump scares but there's a few moments where they execute the tension really well. Not too scary though.
