I have a 100-quart pot with basket...what we typically do is place the crawfish in the pot and basket, fill up the pot with water, and then slowly lift and drop the basket numerous times to get the water moving over the crawfish...lift basket all the way up to survey the dirtyness of the water, dump out the water and repeat process until water is clean enough.

It is amazing what some live crawfish sellers will call "clean"...

what do you typically do to clean the crawfish?

Just the usual putting them in a #3 tub.......

Castnet Seafood does an excellent job of cleaning their crawfish prior to sale. When I buy from them all I generally have to do is give them a quick shot with the hose while they are still in the sack.

so you just put them in a tub once, let them sit and then take them out? typically how dirty is the water after that?

you should put them in an ice chest and rinse them until the water coming out of the drain is clear

I bought a clean 33 gal. plastic barrel and cut the top off. also cut handles in it and drilled 10-1/2" holes 6 inches below the rim on one side.

fill with crawfish and put garden hose thru the handle and secure with clamp. Fill with water and continue letting water run for 20-30 minutes stirring the crawfish once or twice. the water goes out of the holes and will not let the crawfish escape.

I have two big tupperware tubs and one with holes in it. Put the crawfish in the one with holes and fill it up in the tub. Similar method that you use to clean it. I fill the other tub with water while cleaning in the first tub. Repeat process until the water is clear.

Depends on what type of basket your pot has but I think the tupperware is sturdier to clean them.

I put my crawfish in an orange shrimp/seafood basket(coonasses will call it a champagne-basket) inside of a big tub and let the water run until the water is clear. Then dip the basket up and down a few times and pick it out the water and let it drain a little bit before dumping into the boiling basket.

We have a plastic garbage can with a net (ol crawfish sack) tacked over 1/3 of the opening so we can dump the water out and jeep crawfish in. Dumping seems to clean them off slightly better/faster.

We use a ice chest or tub when we're only boiling a sack or two but we use th garbage can when we're doing a big boil.

#3 tub. change water 3 or 4 times while boiling water. use the crawfish sack over the edge of the tub as a strainer.

Fill two number 3 tubs with water, side by side.

Place a table with the end over one of the number 3 tubs. Open the sack, and push the live crawfish over the end of the table and into one of the tubs. Get the dead crawfish/bait/dirt/marsh grass/etc into a trash recepticle.

Once all the live crawfish are in the water, use basket scoops to move all the crawfish from the "dirty" tub to the clean tub. Empty the dirty tub and fill with water. Repeat until the water in the tub with the crawfish is clean.

No dirt, no mess, no need to worry about straigt tails.

Repetitive, but this is the deal:
