So if you knew someone who didn't own a single gun, what guns would you suggest

to build a collection?
Idea being that they didn't have a specific idea like "personal protection" or "deer rifle
I'll start:
1:Shotgun
2:Pistol (.45/9mm/.40)
3:22LR
4:AR15
5:270/30-06/7mm
6:1911
7:AK

I'd say get a 10/22 and maybe a .22 revolver and build from there with whatever they wanted as they went.
Of course, the closest gun I have to not being a functional gun is my .22 revolver, and I got it for a snake gun. The rest are or at least were hunting guns.

They probably wouldn't have the proper knowledge to be safe or the proper appreciation so I wouldn't recommend anything.

Everyone should start with a revolver. They are easy to handle, accurate and multi use.
Shotgun next

Buy them a CCL class.
Then either a .22 or a 9mm. I went 9mm first. I'm happy.

Always start with a shotgun. It's the most versatile. Then a .22 rifle. Then a big game rifle or possibly a combat rifle depending on how much big game they'll be doing and what kind and where. AK or AR is a matter of taste and what you think the ammo supply will support after the zombie apocalypse. Or a pistol for self defense. 9mm is great because of the abundance of ammo and the round is sufficient for self defense. Not optimal, but all things considered...

always start with a .22 to learn technique and safety. If someone made it to adulthood without ever owning a gun, there's a good chance they'll fire a shotgun once, put it down and never shoot anything again.

depends on if they plan to hunt or not, is it for home defense or just shooting fun.
.30-06------------hunting
12 gauge----------home defense and hunting
.22 pistol -------fun to shoot
ruger 10/22-------fun to shoot
AR-15-------------all of the above
.357/.45/.40/9mm--home defense/fun to shoot

I would probably recomend a pump shotgun (870) first, no matter what their intended purposes are.
It is the most versitile gun.
Second depends on its intended uses. Hunter, Self defense, Just plain shootin stuff?
Hunter: bolt action rifle (700). '06 270 308 7/08
Self defense: double action .38
Shootin stuff: Ruger Single Six revolver or Henry lever action .22

I dissagree big time. Handguns are dangerous as hell because of how easy it is to loose track of the muzzle.
A pellet gun first, shotgun 2nd imo.

Yeh guess I was assuming that safe handling practices would be followed with each.

Red Rider FTW
22 semi auto, you can learn how to handle a gun and cheap to shoot plenty rounds
shotgun not a bad choice, especially if you can go shoot at some skeet or something, also can hunt anything in Louisiana with a shotgun

I would not associate with someone who does not own a gun.

I would know where I'm going if I needed to make a score. Easy pickins.
