Wut?? Both tiger stadium uppers, the new Box, and the softball stadium were all done by baton rouge firms

So you're saying if and when they close off the south endzone they won't have to replace the grass with turf due to lack of sunlight?
There are many new strains of more "Shade Tolerant/Resitant" turf grasses. Celebration Bermuda, (The new grass in Tiger Stadium) is one of them. We have an very good grass guy now, (Eric Fasbender) so there should not be anymore turf problems in Tiger Stadium, even with an expanded South.

Okay, thanks for the info

If you only had 20,000 seats in Tiger Stadium, you'd still have empty seats in the 2nd half of some games.

Only doing a half-assed expansion, leaving all that empty space, instead of going on and continuing the rows up to the top where the east and west uppers would meet flush with the south, would really be tacky and unacceptable.
There's no doubt in my mind though, that's what they're planning.
Please surprise me LSUAD and do it right this time. Don't throw something up there that's going to be an embarrassment to the university.
I'm with you on this. I've not been impressed with Alleva (and was against his hiring because he fired an innocent Duke Lacrosse coach and didn't stand up for those kids). He's starting to look like a sober Joe Dean. Doesn't drive in the lake but still is short-sighted and makes poor hiring choices.

Hard pill to swallow, but LSU might end up with new (think Oregon) uniforms in time. And we will all bitch and complain to our grand kids "how things used to be" but they will re-enforce the points made here. Just like Facebook, the very internet itself, email, iPods and LED televisions.....things change. Not suitable for everyone. But a fricking FACT of life.

I don't think ANY network other than our own Geauxzone, is very interested in televising LSU vs. N. TX, Idaho or Towson State !

Client side or design side? I'm just asking because these types of construction projects are almost exclusively done by out of state architectural firms, which is just fricking awesome.
construction projects aren't done by architecture firms - they are done by construction companies. the design is what is done by architecture firms - and both the east upper deck and the west upper deck was designed by baton rouge architect trey trahan.
the proposed parking lot improvements were also designed by a baton rouge architect.

That looks nice, but from the drawings i saw months ago (losing bidder so dead design) you cant have a symmetric end zone.
the design is a separate issue than the builder. TAF chooses an architect, the architect designs the project, and then a contractor is chosen. if it is public work it must go to low bidder. TAF is not public, so they can choose their contractor.
even if it was public project, the contractor with the low bid has nothing to do with the design.

Surprising that the vast majority of people do NOT KNOW how the world really works...kind of scary really, and explains the state of turmoil our nation ,is now in !

I read somewhere that if you have 100,000 seats you are required to add on a sprinkler system to the field or some random thing like that.. Maybe that's why they stopped? That's not true. LSU didn't adopt that policy. It'd only be minor changes like sprinklers in suites and kitchen areas.
im not sure off the top of my head what the building codes state with respect to this, but it isn't up to LSU what code they follow/LSU isn't the entity that adopts or doesn't adopt building codes. That is done by city. LSU is in Baton Rouge.. and commercial buildings in baton rouge must comply with IBC and whatever ammendments dpw adopts.
in any case, the sprinkler this refers to has nothing to do with watering the field - its a fire sprinkler system.

This has Toonces written all over it. I wish they would open the decision up for input from the fans. If the bid law doesn't have to play a part, TAF could select 5 or 6 options and place information about each one including, the drawings of each option, the overall projected cost of each option, the changes that would have to be made (relocation of parking, etc.) all on their website. Fans could then log into their TAF account and vote for their favorite design. For people who do not belong to TAF, TAF could offer a cheaper basic membership so that everybody could join and help make LSU athletics even better.

Ah...you can join TAF for as little as $10/yr. you want to make it cheaper...LOL !
Your membership input idea however, is a very good promotional thought that TAF should seriously look into. If for nothing else, the novelty and /or interest generation.

People keep talking about sprinklers in a stadium having over 100k. Stop. That is one of the dumbest things i have heard on this site. Local building codes that require wet pipe/dry pipe/ or any other sprinkler coverage for fire protection have no bearing on what LSU will decide on numbers. There is already fire protection in the conssesion areas and other areas throughout TS (suites, Elevator shafts, offices and locker rooms). The decision to add 200 seats or 200,000 seats won't make a difference on fire protection coverage. If you built a new upper deck to outer space and it held 2.5. Billion people, you wouldn't need a "sprinkler system". Any occupied areas are required to have fire protection and I'm pretty sure these are being built for the suites and not the seats on top further dis proving this theory.

this isn't entirely true. though im not familiar (off top of head) with specifics of codes relating to large open air assembly spaces - there are definitely times when owners avoid a certain design option because it would result in very expensive retrofitting of an existing building with sprinklers and sprinkler piping.
it is true that occupied spaces must have some type of fire protection, but this is typically within a large "sliding scale" of options. For example, if a building has sprinklers, then it may be allowed to have a greater square footage than what would otherwise be allowed. Or if a building has a sprinkler system, it may be allowed to have a higher overall height than what would otherwise be allowed. Or, if a building has a sprinkler system, the permissible length of a dead end corridor is longer than what would otherwise be allowed. that are many examples.
im not sure if this has anything to do with the decision for Tiger Stadium addition to be at 99,500 - but it is true that sprinkler system requirements definitely do, at times, cause architects to pursue some other design solution (because the owner does not want to pay the cost).

Then they would be flooded with tons of:
"Why isn't it 100,000 seats?!"
"The upper decks should connect"
"We need to connect the north endzone too"
