I'm pretty sure Amon killed him when he saw him bloodbending.

Amon did not choke him out and drop him, like Darth Vader. He just blood bent him and tossed him into some boards, mustache guy might still be around.

It's possible. I just can't help but feel they shift the story from Republic City next season. I like having everything take place in a central location but I would like to see how the different kingdoms are faring this far into the future from TLA.

The bad guy never says to his second in command "You have served me well" without the intent of killing him. He was a much bigger threat to him than either Korra or Mako at the time since people would have believed him. It's in Amon's best interest to keep a depowered Avatar alive, but definitely not someone that others would believe. He probably crushed his lungs and heart. He's without question dead.

Just finished the first season.

SPOILER:

Only thing I hated about it was that Korra didn't once go into the Avatar state until the very, very end, and even then she didn't do it at her time of utmost desperation. Yeah, yeah, she was most desperate when she lost everything. I get that. But she's about to "lose her bending" and she doesn't blow a gasket like Aang used to do and go full Avie on Amon's arse? Well before he learned to control it, Aang used to go into the Avatar state when he got super pissed or he saw someone he loved get hurt. Hell, they dedicated a whole episode to that. And she doesn't do it until after the fact? I declare shenanigans.

I often times caught myself wondering why she never went into the avatar state as well.

And I believe it's been mentioned already(haven't read the whole thread), but Bolin Seems pretty pointless to this point. He's done a bit, but there really haven't been any good story lines to get a feel for who he is/why he's important.

Yeah, that's unfortunate because they built Bolin up more in the early episodes and just abandoned him. It's like they tried to build up the characters in team Avatar but just did it so unevenly. They could dump Mako, Bolin, and Asami next season and I wouldn't care. Oh yeah, and Pabu, while adorable, is no Momo. Naga is awesome though.

As to Korra only going to the Avatar state at the end, I honestly think it's because she wasn't as tied in to her spiritual side as Aang was. That's what Aang's whole life had been devoted to up to that point so it makes sense that he had better access to it.

So am I to assume that she can enter the Avatar state at will now? I'm basing that off of her healing Lin. My memory is failing me but didn't it take Aang a while to be able to do that? I'm trying to remember how he gained that ability and why Korra seemed to be able to do it at will.

Well, didn't Roku give him that power at the end?
If so, Aang probably just did the same thing for her.

As per the avatar state spirituality comment, that makes sense and I could see it being the reasoning.

Yeah, it's one thing the series failed at compared to the original. Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Zuko just complemented each other so well. Korra, Mako, Bolin, and Asami just don't. I just didn't feel some kickass feeling when Bolin rescued Asami from her father killing her the same way I would if it were from the characters in the other series. The adults though are all well written as is Korra.

Nope, the Lion Turtle did.

:fail: lol

Well, gaining/using all the power of past avatars once Aang reached her at the end could still be the reasoning I guess. Aang already had that power, so she must have to.

Wait, I thought the Lion Turtle (the coolest thing ever in Avatar)just gave him the power to Spirit Bend. I thought that he had to learn to use the Avatar State at will on his own... I know i'm forgetting something, I need to rewatch the series.

I was on vacation last week, so I didn't get to watch the finale until last night. Overall, I enjoyed the season and the finale. I did think the end was a bit rushed for everything that happened, but it was enjoyable. A few thoughts:

1. As soon as we learned that Amon used bloodbending to take away bending, I figured Katara would eventually use her bloodbending to heal Korra and the others. As soon as she peaked through the door at the end, I knew I was right....then she said she couldn't heal Korra. I still think this would have been a more logical path. Since bloodbending was used to do the damage, bloodbending should have been used for the healing.
2. With Korra now knowing all 4 styles of bending and not only going into the avatar state but completely controlling it, who the hell is going to challenge her next season? The villain will need to be a real badass. Perhaps a spirit that is loose in the physical world?

He learned how to open his 8 chakras from a yogi toward the end of the series. He refused to open the Cosmic Gate (?) because it meant abandoning all ties to loved ones, including Katara. Then, I guess, he abandoned his feelings for Katara when they were fighting Zuko's sister, but Zuko's sister put a lightning bolt through him just before or during his avatar state, which crippled his ability to enter it again. Only during the fight with the Fire Lord was he able to unlock the state again and that was because, fortuitously, he hit his back at just the right spot (where the lightning bolt hit him) to reopen his chakra paths. After that, he went all Avi and kicked the shite out of the Fire Lord.

Dan Snierson, author of the EW article, confirms to us via Twitter that Nick has ordered 26 episodes to air AFTER the “original 26-episode order.” “This new 26-ep order is for “Season 2,” he tells us after saying “”Season 1, Book 2” airs in 2013, part of the original 26-episode order.” Take these together and some form of 26 new episodes after book 2 has been confirmed! They could either have a 26 episode Book 3, or spread the 26 episodes into Books 3 and 4.

I loved the original series, haven't got a chance to check into this one.

Excited to start watching after hearing so many good things about it.

Honestly not sure how I feel about 26 more episodes. Almost rather they'd move on to another Avatar and timeline. Don't know how much more great stories they can tell with an almost invincible Avatar.

I'm willing to believe that the creators were on board with doing this many more episodes. I understand where you're coming from though. Knowing their intent was to do one season and now we're looking at probably four makes me wonder how much they've planned. I trust them though.

I sure would love to see a 26 episode season of Ang as a fully realized Avatar
