Yep and his whopping 74-93 SEC record and 4 NCAA berths in 11 years. Hahah
I'm on the Johnson gets one more year boat. If things don't happen next year, then he gets the boot.

10.5 actually, they dumped his arse halfway through the abortion that was the 2007-08 season

Has Alleva said as much that Trent will be back next season? Haven't followed hoops that closely and didn't see anything definitive on TR. TIA.
Seriously. That is like asking if Les should be fired after the Alabama NC game on here.

Except for being absolutely nothing whatsoever like it, yes, it's exactly like it.

At his current pace, Johnson will need 11.84 years to win 74 SEC games (while losing 115), and 16 years to make four NCAA tournament appearances.
So Brady had a better SEC record and a better ratio of NCAA appearances to years coached than Trent Johnson.
And Brady got fired.
Because he sucked.

I'm not a big basketball guy, but IMO if they don't improve next year from this year (which to be fair was an improvement from last year), Trent will be gone... basketball is the only area of LSU athletics that isn't generating the money that it could. Of course, if they improve next year and make the tourney, Trent could be around for a while ... the team would then have three consecutive years of improvement from the prior year.
Brady hung on for a while, but one must also remember that Brady was given more rope for inheriting a program on probation.

He should be fired...the only reason his record is better is because the SEC had a down year...the teams he has fielded are amount the worst I can remember at LSU...

We gave Brady 10 seasons...just sayin
And part of an 11th. But during that 10+ years, Brady proved three times that he could build an NCAA tournament-worthy team in less time than it's taken Trent Johnson since 2009.
And Brady got fired.
Because he sucked.

Alleva Will not dump Johnson
Agreed. Not this year. Not next year. Not ever, regardless of performance. Johnson will be at LSU for as long as Alleva is, because Alleva's ego is more important than the LSU basketball program's success.

As I noted in the OP I haven't followed our season game-by-game, but now that the season has played out how can Joe justify retaining Trent? IMO, to do communicates an incredibly (and unacceptably) low expectation of "success" in our basketball team.
Exactly.

It's just that he's had time and hasn't gotten the job done.

Which beats the hell out of 10 seasons of consistently shitty performance.

Time to dump Alleva. He stinks, anyway.

Nobody has low expectations for the LSU basketball program. There are realistic ones though.
Next seasons are higher than this years based on our improvement this season. Not that hard to grasp.
Totally agree. You don't go from occasional tourney team to legit contender in 1 or 2 years. We bottomed out in 09/10 and 10/11, got depth and young talent (all 5 starters coming back) and a NIT bid this year and next year the expecations will be a tourney bid and strong SEC record.
That is a reasonable, rationale and (in my opinion) the right way to manage a program if you are Alleva. If we stagnate or regress next season then it become an easy decision. I'm very bullish on the team next year however.

I think we are one big man recruit from the level you talk about. Morgan is going to impress next year imo

Why should TJ be replaced if you dont care.
Whether I "care" or not is the smallest of factors to be considered. TJ should be replaced because: a) we are four years into it with Trent and failed to make the top 64 teams and b) the rate of improvement is too slow. By retaining TJ for another season it generally communicates that we don't value basketball that much. IMO, we can do better.
Basketball is a small ship. It doesn't take that much time to turn it around.
(BTW, I cared enough to ask the question.)

If you don't follow the basketball team, then why would you care?

Whatever. The team on the floor this year was a vast improvement over the last two dude. If you can't see that then there's no convincing you.
