according to what she said in the Advocate newspaper this morning. If that is true, that's impressive..... for a woman.

It's probably on purpose. The new kickoff rules make it much more beneficial to force a return with a kick to the 2.

Yea, the question is: is she landing it there because that is her max distance, or is she landing it there on purpose with some good air time

She did say that she is working on her hang time.

Probably about as well as any other kicker

The only bad thing about her making a tackle would be the aftermath. They return team especially the returner would be embarrased to no end, and she would then become a target likely.

She's 6'1", 190 lbs. She's been lifting with the football team for the better part of a year. The football players know and respect her as an athlete and a competitor.
I realize it's not comparable to football, but as a four-year, starting goalie in the SEC, it's safe to say she's made hard contact in the penalty box. In fact, I'd argue she's made more hard contact in game conditions than either of the other two kickers. And yes, before you jump on me, I know soccer is not football. Still, it is worth considering. My sister was a soccer player at LSU, and she had the bruises, and the broken bones, to prove it. Believe me, it's a contact sport.
Also, for comparison:
Mo Isom: 6'1", 190 lbs.
Drew Alleman: 5'11", 183 lbs.
James Hairston: 6'0", 200 lbs.
Honestly, I'd be just as comfortable with Isom as the defender of last resort on a kickoff as with Alleman or Hairston. And before you jump on me, internet, I know that Isom, as a woman, does not have same upper body strength as a man of comparable size. However, I've never seen a male kicker make a tackle using his upper body. Also, I'd be willing to bet that Isom can squat the same weight, or more, as the other two kickers.
Bottom line: I'd like to see Isom on the roster. Not because of chivalry, or publicity, or equality, but because she adds value.
1. If she can consistently make field goals of 50+ yards, which seems to be the case, keep her. It's never a bad idea to have more than one kicker on the roster with this ability.
2. Our kick-off game can only improve from last year. Were none of you frustrated by that phase of our special teams play last year? Or have you forgotten? I don't think any of our kickers could put the ball consistently inside the five. If she can consistently put the kick-off inside the five, with acceptable hang-time, keep her.
That's my two cents... I await thoughtful replies.

I agree with all your post except this.
"Soccer" IS football.
What LSU plays on Saturdays is "American football."
