I started the dividend portfolio but when I got some pretty big gains in it I sold the dividend stocks except for Entergy. I still hold 1,200 shares of that stock in my "dividend" portfolio mainly because it really hasn't moved much since I bought it.
I really need to develop more discipline in holding stocks.

I was thinking about this the other day. Wouldn't you want to hold a stock that received "pretty big gains" for a year so that your capital gains tax would be less?

UAN, around a 8% dividend. Icahn just got controlling stake of parent and rumor has it he will probably be selling off the fertilizer busines which has been excellent. They make urea ammonium nitrate and their material costs have risen 8% while their product prices have risen over 50% in the last year. I own it and will probably add with this little pullback. Just a thought.

We developed a sizable JPM position through January, then had the "discipline" to hold it while it dropped $10 this month

I have some Atmos Energy (ATO) that has been as steady as a rock during this economic downturn...this past winter was the warmest in years and will tell the tale on gas stocks...
the glut of gas on the market and the resulting low prices due to shale plays should spur demand over time and companys that deal with a fixed margin per unit volume should do well as demand increases and prices stay low...

Fixed margin per unit doesn't matter when you're ROE is regulatorily capped.
