During the offseason and mostly at night what caliber would you get?

What they said. .308 if you want to get the meat. Anything if you just want to kill them. .223 will do fine for killing them but you won't find many.

That was pretty much what I was thinking but wanted some others opinions.

Look at DPMS or CMMG AR-10s. They are reliable but cost a lot less than the other brand names. You could probably build a DPMS/CMMG AR-10 for around $700-800.

I bought one of these specifically for hog hunting. I ordered mine with a Miculek muzzle brake - makes the recoil about like a .223 (I'm sure there are newer muzzle brakes oout there now).

With the 20 round mags, you're ready for some fun if a "covey" of hogs and piglets wander into range.

.223 is big enough for hogs, but I'd prefer the .308

Something similar to this.

The only thing you have to be careful of with the RRA LARs is compatibility issues. One of the best things about the AR platform is the interchangeability between manufacturer parts. The LARs are a unique design so if you decide to upgrade your barrel or bolt group parts later on you have to be careful.

See that little NOTE at the bottom of your advertisement?

I'm in the precess of building an AR in 6.8 SPC. It should be plenty of gun for hogs or deer. The plan right now is to put a 20 inch barrel on it.

An AR-10 will be in the works down the road though.

There may be, but that Miculek freaking works.

I've killed plenty of 200+ pound'ers with .223. It's all you need.

.308 as everyone else said. 6.8 or 6.5 would work too.
