Hawthorne is worst when it comes to play-by-play. When listening to him I have absolutely no idea what is going on. I think he could be a decent color analyst but having to listen to him for a game is pretty frustrating.

Try Charles H. (won't try to spell the last name).
He does better than Hawthorne.

He probably reads TD and he has put up with LSU fans on post game and coach's shows for years..... If that constant flow of bile doesn't turn you pessimistic nothing would...lol.

For the record....I have enjoyed many Tigers games via Jim's voice and a radio from hunting camps, camp grounds and the beach in Texas... I don't understand all the dislike expressed on TD.

Well gem I'm not a paid professional so I would expect Jim to be better at it than me. That doesn't mean he does not suck when compared to his peers

It's trendy for Rantards to bash Hawthorne. Don't you know that they could all do a better job?

GOOD point.... In fact I'm pretty sure some folks on TD use "I hate everything" as their life's theme.

Hawthorne
Miles
Parking fees
Day games
Blowouts
Close games
Too hot
Too cold
Too early kickoff
Too late kickoff
Not enough passing
Not throwing to the right guys
Jacob Hester is too slow
Keiland Williams Didnt play enough
Jamarcus can't throw a short pass with touch
JJ runs too much can't pass at all
Coach doesn't play second QB
Coach uses 2 QB system
OC sucks
DBs talk too much trash
OL got blown up
Short side option
Bad play calling
3rd and Chavis

Bitch Bitch Bitch! Get the picture?

Take a drive through Mississippi on a fall afternoon listening to the radio and you'll agree.

Until he retired let year, Miss State's Jack Cristil was about as good a play by play guy as you'll ever hear. I don't know about his replacement.

After listening to John ferguson for so many years, everyone would suck. Same with Sid Crocker vs Dan Borne. John and Sid will always be the best unless Ron Franklin takes Jim's place.

Love his TD calls.

Most of his TD calls are "And he's in for the score."

I totally disagree. Hawthorne may get some calls wrong in baseball, but he is MUCH MUCH better than any other LSU PBP guy at filling the dead time between pitches and he has MUCH more emotion in his voice than Hanagriff or the other guy (names slips my mind currently).

difference being is that Hanegriff understands baseball 1000x more than Hawthorne. He also knows more about LSU baseball than anyone on the planet. Regardless of how dry he may sound at time, I'd rather listen to Hanegriff any day of the week.

Nostradamus, I'm not going to argue with you about John Ferguson, but I will disagree. I grew up listening to Ferguson and Walter Hill. As matter of fact I knew the Hills. (Not that it matters). But, JF did much that same as what Jim is accused of here and that is leaving you suspended in space wondering what is really going on. Suffice it to say, there is no perfect PBP guy out there, but we have had some pretty good ones at LSU.

I've always thought this is the worst argument ever that makes absolutely zero sense. Hey I can't play college football better than Jordan Jefferson either so who am I to judge him right?

You don't have to be better than someone to be able to tell how well they do it.

He's matching the mindset and intensity of his listeners. It's part of what makes him good IMO.

Jim and Doug were just as stunned at how unprepared they were like everyone else.
