And as a HUGE 49er fan, I had no problems with this hit as well. Great play by the D.

By the rule it's illegal, but I'm glad it wasn't called after watching it a few times. Pierre lowered his head and shoulders and left the defender nowhere to go. Just a tough football play IMO. It's not as if Pierre was defenseless and the defender launched into him.

whitner didn't lead with the crown of his helmet
he lowered his body and even turned his head. the side of his helmet hit the side of pierre's helmet. whitner didn't launch himself, he lowered himself.
pierre engaged with his helmet on that play, too. that's why once you become a runner, the H2H rules are essentially gone (Except for leading with the crown and spearing/launching)

i thought it was 100% helmet to helmet, and therfore illegal. Im just not sure it could have been avoided.

If that was our guy laying that hit, we'd all be crowing from the rooftop
If our defense would hit anyone other than each other, we'd be crowing...

1.Yes, how could he have avoided the hit if he wanted to, it was too fast.
It was a pretty big play, your right, with a 7-0 lead we might never make stupid turnovers and most likely destroy this team, as the defense was playing superb, at least until you know when.
However, having said that, don't expect anybody here to agree with you. Most of them won't agree and will even attack you, because they don't want to be seen as making excuses. It's pretty pathetic actually.
As for people saying it was a good no call, you have no right to complain about any helmet to helmet hit again.
It'll work itself out though. The packers are gonna rape the giants, and don't think they will turn the ball over 5 times.
