I bought myself a Sako 270 for Christmas and have no idea what type of scope to buy.
I know I need Weavel (sp?) mounts and can sight it in myself.
I live in Thibodaux, but can travel within an hour or so no problem. (Houma or Baton Rouge)
Not looking to spend a fortune, but want the best scope for its value. Probably under $500 if possible. I'll probably upgrade it once I graduate (and get a real job).

Just looking for suggestions.
TIA.

For $500, go with the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40mm. Normally $499, they are on sale right now at Cabela's for $399. Do it.

Leupold VXII /thread.

I've hunted with a few zeiss scopes and find the eye relief is a little more critical on them than the leupolds. Excellent glass on both.

Also, another little annoying thing about zeiss, the turrets are not marked L and R. They are marked R and U I think. Nothing major, just annoying.

If you can afford it, go Zeiss.

Assuming you mean Weaver? And no. You don't want Weaver bases and rings. This is as important as the glass. Look at some TPS rings and rail. They are affordable and vastly superior to Weaver.

The scope thing has been discussed ad nauseam on here. Try a search, but most of what you have found has been said.

Personally I would go Leupold VXIII, but I do have some Zeiss Conquests that are great scopes.
