My 9 y/o daughter's conclusion after seeing the climax in League of Their Own

"Dottie dropped it on purpose."
I successfully fought the urge to scream at her.

Can't stand her little whiny bitch sister in that movie. A shame she won that game.

She didn't?
Hell no! She's too much of a competitor and would not frick over her teammates like that. No point in turning around at Yellowstone if you are going to throw the Series.

Didn't she almost throw her shot of even going for her sister though? Been a while refresh me. Not saying I disagree but she loved that damn sister.

Yes, but once she got there and was playing, she grew to love the game.
Like I said, if it did not matter to her, then she'd have kept driving to Oregon.

I don't think she dropped it on purpose but I don't think it's that farfetched for your daughter to have come to that conclusion.

I always thought she dropped it on purpose. It's evident in the smile she has when she looks back to see Kit being carried off the field.
Doesn't mean Kit isn't a Kunt...

Be proud your daughter isn't a Rantard.....it's a great day at your home.

She definitely dropped it on purpose. She was a far superior athlete.

Ah yes, this great debate again.
She definitely dropped it on purpose.

Dropped on purpose.

Dropped on purpose. Went against her own nature to rescue her sister's self-esteem which had suffered (albeit unintentionally) at her hand , blah, blah. Already had everything she wanted, so feels she needs to help Kit excel at something, yada-yada.

It's a smile of being proud.
Dottie is a competitor.
Dottie- “High fastballs. She can’t hit ‘em. Can’t lay off em.”
She smiles because she's proud in the end that her sis received the accolades she so desperately wanted...but because she earned it; she finally beat her older sister. Dottie wouldn't be proud of Kit if she gave her the game.

Yeah, but didn't Dottie and Kit have a shitty relationship anyway? And only reconciled at the reunion?

Yes. Which makes it even more unlikely that she dropped the ball on purpose.
She said this with venom before Kit's at bat.
Dottie- “High fastballs. She can’t hit ‘em. Can’t lay off em.”
But she's her sister and while she wanted to beat her, she couldn't help be a little (smile) proud.

I think Dottie dropped the ball on purpose as a last ditch effort to create any bond, and Kit fricked it up, because Kit was an awful awful bitch who fricked up everything. She makes Stillwell look like a real angel...
Listen, another reason Dottie dropped it on purpose is the camera work. The ball clearly rolled out of her open-handed glove...no effort to clinch the hand or anything.

It's possible and that was my initial gut reaction too. She dropped it on purpose.
Okay. Too much analysis here but this is my final reasoning.
I can only go off what the film shows us...and most of the evidence points to her not dropping the ball (telling her pitcher how to strike out Kit, their relationship, her ego and pride in being the best.)
There's a reason the OPs child immediately believed she dropped it on purpose.
1) We like Dottie,
2) We want to believe that's what she would do, what we would do
3) It's a child-like assumption that people are good-hearted and family takes care of their own.
Dottie was a competitor but more than that...I really think her final smile was pride...you don't feel pride toward your sister by throwing the game. If Dottie has the character (which we think she does) why would she feel good for her sister at the expense of her team/manager?
