Met the writer of this article Saturday night at the Londoner Pub in Baton Rouge. Bought him a beer, talked basketball. Good guy, seems to think that Trent was a great hire and we should be patient.

He has coached 3 full seasons at LSU. So if he's been here for a season or two too long, you would suggest that he should have been fired either after his first season, when he won the SEC, or after his second season, his first down season. That makes a lot of sense.

He's had plenty of time to get his guys in here. They are still not competitive in the sec. Time for him to go and for Alleva to find someone who can make LSU competitive. Maybe make a sweet 16 run every 5-6 yrs.

I do not get to see any games here in Dallas, but looking at the record, I do not see much, if any improvement from yr 1 to yr 3..at this point.

Trent's 4th season here..He has all his own guys, and you'd think that we might have a tourney team by now...Maybe this team is...What are the home crowds looking like so far this season? Excitement level for LSU basketball doesn't seem very high.

I still like this Coach. He can coach, the tough part is recruiting. He has a real opportunity with LA. kids this year. If he has success, he will be on his way.

If Trent doesn't have a good season this season, than I would think/hope that he'd be on the hot-seat, and that next season would be do or die for him.

I'd like to see Trent do well here, but unfortunately for him LA hasn't exactly had a ton of talent the last few years for him to recruit, and he hasn't been able to overcome this by recruiting outside of LA, seemingly. Plus, Trent is not exactly Mr. Excitement when it comes to charisma.
I thought this years team had talent, and would be real good. I hope Trent & players prove me wrong.

I wouldn't call 2.5 years "plenty" of time to get his guys here, but yes, the "we need more time to get big recruits" argument has run its course. 08-09 was great. 09-10 was bad, but it wasn't necessarily unexpected. 10-11 was worse than expected and the program has lost players for various reasons.
This is a defining year for TJ. He MUST show tangible signs of improvement. I'm not going to blast him for not being competitive in the SEC this year, since this year's SEC schedule hasn't started. I expect 6-10 wins in conference. Six is the absolute minimum (and even still may not be enough keep him around). The SEC has some really good teams at the top, but early on it looks like there are some "dogs" at the bottom.
