I bet we practice the shovel pass. If they start defending the option to the outside we ream them with that.

But, I'm not sure that they didn't defend it correctly the first time. They might have all known their assignments, done them correctly, but just not had the speed at LB to stop LSU's RB from getting to the edge.

What adjustments can you make for your LBs not having enough speed that won't compromise other areas of your defense?

I agree.. If you think about it, they were there, we were just a step a head.. and we had some good blocking at times on the edge. I see us getting the ball to the edge as fast as we can, option, pitch... and pound it inside, see some counters.. then when they begin to react to the outside plays, boom... a halfback pass, option pass... we need to keep thier Def. off balance... not just pound it..

I would like to see some 2-minute uptempo stuff. Just to mix it up.

I love this idea. We did some uptempo stuff in the first game and it worked about as well as anything else. We're deeper than them so let's get their guys sucking wind as fast as we can. Also they're fast but we're faster. So to stop the option and sweep plays they will have to widen their alignment, which will open things up for Hilliard.

utilizations of quick slants.

any type of 3 step drop quick hitters. we should also exploit the mismatches on their LB's in coverage. run curls and sits against zone and slants, corners, posts, drags, etc against man under coverage even if there is a cover 1(depends who this lone safety covers though) or 2 over the top.

screens won't work against a disciplined Bama defense either.

absolute baloney. if they jailbreak blitz screens will definitely work. now if they fake a blitz and somehow read a screen and back out then different story.

The key to this game

is efficient passing to help us move the sticks. our speed option hopefully opens up space between the tackles on dives and the zone read off the end. we will get our runs, but we will have to pass efficiently to mix things up.

and......we need way more PA rollouts with a 3 level flood route ran to the same side. JJ is best on the rollouts IMO.

Do you really think Bama is going to spend time working on trying to stop the triple option against LSU... a team who never runs a triple option?

The triple option is Georgia Southern's whole offense... and that 8-3 fcs school ran for 300 yards on Alabama after they had a week to prepare on defense doing nothing but trying to stop the triple option..

They'll spend some time on it. It's not like they only have a week to prepare; they've got 6 weeks.

We had some success throwing the ball.
The TE had a few catches.
There were open receivers on JL's two interceptions.
RS's long catch was a completely blown coverage.
Ruben had a sure TD if the pass/catch was there.
And the most effective tool was when JJ stepped up and ran out of the pocket.

I'd love to sit in on some of the meetings where they are planning strategy and counter-strategy. I bet it's very interesting.

The way to win with the option incorporated heavily into the game plan begins with the simple dive play and crossbuck action we've seen from Hilliard and Ware in recent weeks. Ford and Blue are also capable between the tackles. You soften that belly up and then hit the options, both read and speed variety with Ford, Blue or RS. The Tigers rushed for nearly 150 yards in the first game. They will get much more this go-round IMO. Play-action passes will be wide open by the middle of the second quarter. Of course, you still need accurate throws from the QB. LSU does not run the triple option(takes a special QB to do that) but I wouldn't be surprised to see Mr. Ware chunk the ball from the thirty yard line going in.

An option team that scored 14 points - not 21. And one was a 82 yard busted play. I venture that the OP did not see the game, nor did he really even look at anything besides a ticker on ESPN to see the final score and pass judgement.

I hate to be a realist but the GA So. game is not a reason to abandon all offensive hope and go tr option vs Bama...delusional morons may disagree however.

I would run it if only to tire out the big Line Backers they have, A lot of ease west action. Bama's defence was wearing out in the 4th qtr. I felt good when we went into OT.
