I know this is a little premature, but with the one game remaining this season, now is as good a time as any to begin the discussion.
Who will be given the #18 to wear for next season?
My early favorites:
Josh Dworaczyk - a fifth year senior and leader coming off an injury.
Shep - likely to return for his senior year and a vocal team leader.
Josh Johns - I know he will only be a junior next year, but we all know what he has done for this team.

He's an OL, and there's no guarantee that he will physically be able to play next year, regardless of the NCAA's decision.

Not a bad choice I guess.

what has he done aside from cover kicks?

Can an O-Linemen even be #18, or is the number slotting an NFL thing only?

Pretty sure an OL can't wear 18 either

Shep IMO
Maybe Eric Reid, although he'd just be a junior.

Don't think an O lineman could wear the number.
I say Mett - we need him to pull out his inner Peyton Manning next year.

I agree. But since it's been co-opted into supposedly being something special it's something we'll have to put up with. I wouldn't mind seeing Sam Montgomery get it though.

You could wear any number you want in college

Rueben Randle if he returns.

Russell Shepard, and it ain't close

Wouldnt Dworzyack or whatever be a 6th year senior? and Shep and Rueben most likely do not want to change their number.. Would be best if it went to someone on defense, or Mettenberger

For all the dumbasses who think an O-Lineman cannot wear #18 please consult the NCAA rule book, as I did.
NCAA rules, "strongly recommend" offensive players to be numbered according to a rubric, however there is no mandate, and no penalty for failure to follow the recommendations. So yes, if Josh D is given #18 nothing in the NCAA rules would forbid him from wearing it.
