As a hunter, do things ever bother you on some hunting shows?

The other day I saw this goofy chick going bow hunting for a mountain lion in CO. The dogs tree one and she gets there and he is in the top of a tree. She puts an arrow into his ribs and he starts screaming. They're all celebrating and high fiving, "Great shot! Shoot him again!" She puts another arrow into him and finally the cat falls out of the tree. I'm a big hunter, but this kind of bothered me. I think you should have a little respect for the animals you shoot.

My problem is that footage like that makes a new crop of anti-hunters each and every time. The hunting and outdoors community needs to monitor their image a bit better.

I hate it when they run up to a dead deer and start taunting it. Wtf, trash talking a dead deer? I was watching something the other day and this dude kills a mule deer and he's running around, selling it to the camera, then runs up to the deer and repeatedly yells, "We got you!" It was closer to a World Series celebration than an I just killed a deer celebration.

I can understand being excited about killing one that you've been hunting for a while, but damn, have a little respect for the sport and be thankful you have the opportunity to hunt.

I've gotten to the point where I don't watch hunting shows. They just piss me off...nothing like real life.

All of them? Seriously, what you described happens in 90% of them. I hate it. Uncle Ted may be the worst, with all the false "honoring" of the animal he just wacked.

My biggest issue is watching "hunters" shoot near/around feeders like it is a big deal. Hell, what animal ain't easy to kill if you offer it a meal?

They are more excited about killing the animal as a "trophy." It really pisses me off when they say they are going to donate the meat to a local food bank.

I saw the exact same video and had the same feelings, thats not hunting, thats just shooting

At least when you hunt deer and rabbits w/ dogs you have to take a running shot

Rare is it that a hunting show will actually teach you something. Nowadays, they'll just show people on guided massacres.
I also agree that they are hurting the overall image of a sportsman with all of the needless gloating and kill-just-to-kill attitude

I'm pretty selective on the ones i watch. I do not watch any predator hunt. I tend to keep it to Primos, Waddell and Bill Jordan. It's rare to see anything that bothers me on those.

Speaking of, T-bone made a fantastic shot on a nice buck last night. The deer stopped in view. Blood poured out like it was coming out of a bucket on the far side.

I saw this hunt on LA Sportsmen website.

I read the comments and everybody was giving her props for the hunt.

I didn't think so. And I left a message saying I wasn't impressed. It was not a big deal, and I felt bad for the cat.

That bitch can suck it for shooting that big cat that way, and anybody else who thought that hunt involved "skill."

I agree. Hunting shows pretty much suck and are wonderful propaganda for the anti-hunters. I generally don't watch them. Plus, half of the morons on these shows are terrible shots.

Also, there is absolutely NO REASON to shoot a mountain lion unless your life or property is in danger.

Exactly. The "If it's Brown, it's Down" and "If it Flies, it Dies" bumper stickers don't help our cause, either. They make us look like a bunch of stupid, blood-thirsty rednecks.

It aggravates me when you see an obviously terrible arrow shot on a deer, that you know will require waiting until the next day, tracking dogs, etc., then they pretend like it went down within 100 yds.

Kinda like how they pulled in a gator on Swamp People that already had a tag in its tail.

Sounds pretty shitty....never understood why you would kill a ML, Lion, Elephant, or any other game like that.

As long as they arent attacking your cattle or kids....but some people like seeing it

My wife and I watched "Gun it with Benny Spies" on Versus I think. She and I were both put off by how disrespectful he was toward the animals he killed. On one show he strapped the deer to the back of his Winnebago and just drove off. I just think deer are graceful creatures and they should be treated with repsect when you kill one. I won't be watching Benny anymore.

I'll still watch a few shows but have been turned off to them recently due to just being jealous In the real world every hunter doesn't have access to 100k+ dollars worth of farm equipment, 1k acres of land and the ability to farm it and turn it into a haven for deer.

Only shows I watch now are Bone Collector, The Crush, Duck and Deer Commander. Watch these shows for entertainment value only. I dont really see many shows now that have education attached to them. The show with Stan Potts, QDMA was pretty good. Problem I have with a lot of shows is that they make me feel like a terrible sportsman if I kill a 2 1/2 year old buck.

Lots of things bother me about hunting shows, like the absolutely horrid music.

I don't watch hunting shows because they are utterly boring, and pointless 99% of the time. Rarely will a hunter ever learn anything from a modern hunting show.
