This is what New Englanders must have felt like before the British attacked.

"Wait, the British are coming?"
"I'm not sure. I know they are considering it."
"Are you sure? Was it 1 if by land, 2 if by sea?"
"I think that's right. Although, I read something on Bleacher Report about a 3rd possibility? Something regarding Catholics?"
"Really? Hmmm... What's the Continental Congress say about it? Can we contact the British at this point or is it Dead Period??
"I"m not sure. But let's throw out every morsel of info and let the chickens find the kernel of corn in it..."

Hard to imagine a thread with 30+ pages and zero concrete info.

At least the revolutionaries were classy enough to do it with lanterns instead of goofy looking baseball caps.

When gallagherkck said:

quote:

I cant see how any QB would wanna play for Kelly old red faced angry man screaming spittle in your face the whole game wouldnt apeal to me.

Sounds like Petrino, right? Not really my cup of tea either. But hey, success is success.

Frankie Knuckles said:

Same is said about Saban, Bob Knight, etc. If kids think they'll get early PT and be on winning team, I dont think they gaf if the coach yells. Lots of these bigtime athletes have a psychotic dad/coach since they were toddlers anyway...

This subject was addressed in another thread (4th post down) with respect to Kelly and Kiel. Frankie is right, but just because "lots of these bigtime athletes have a psychotic dad/coach since they were toddlers anyway..." is no reason why their unprofessional behavior ought to be acceptable. Name a profession where those appalling antics are even tolerated. Drill sergeant? Prison guard? Third world dictators? Patients in asylums? In my view the NCAA needs to evaluate their policies toward these putative mentors of student athletes. Tantrums -- and especially if a student is humiliated -- ought be fined. Repeat offenders ought be suspended and contumacious coaches banned outright. The NCAA can set the example for the other levels of sport. We need to root these petty tyrants out of our playgrounds, away from our kids. These "mentors" are mentals.

And this:

I sure seem to have the 1700s on my mind.

Don't tread on me, bitches.

yeah but its only gonna be a verbal....kid already flaked on IU

The kid has been ultra silent about his decision and every time he or his family speak they talk about how difficult it has been and how much thought has gone into the process.

I can guarantee that when this kid makes a public decision, it will be his final one.

Football is one of the few cultures which permits this type of "leadership" style .
At the end of the day, lots of kids and parents refuse to go to a coach who is routinely abusive.

Seriously?

FWIW, if the players think the screaming and humiliation is too much, I think things work themselves out on their own. (ie recruits stop coming, losses pile up, jobs gets lost)....

Well, if he's an EE, he won't really have much of a chance to switch.

I half agree with you, Bozo, and half disagree. I understand your point and sympathize on several points. But like Knuckles said, it seems to work itself out most of the time in terms of recruits.

I, for one, respond better to positive reinforcement, but some people respond really well to yelling and screaming. It pushes them harder. If a recruit doesn't like it, they can quit or transfer. In today's day of televised games, it is relatively easy to determine/see how a coach is during games. So to come down on these coaches is a little extreme, in my opinion.

Gunner is making his announcement through TD, so it's just a buildup to that.
