We own 3 of the older models. 2 12's and a 20. Its the smoothest shotgun that I have ever shot

mmm... I'm not sure how I feel about this gun. It really has nothing in common with the old Auto-5. The recoil system (and other features) are pretty much the same as in the Benelli Super Black Eagle II, which, IMO is kind of rough. There's just something about the rotating bolt that makes me dislike it. Also can't shoot 3 1/2" magnums (not that it's totally necessary, but it is a lacking option).

I'll stick with my Browning Gold or my grandpa's old Auto-5!

IMO, they would have had a much more marketable product if they had just started re-making the old A-5. Change a few of the manufacturing processes to make it reasonably priced, but keep the gun as a whole the same. I would be buying one if that were the case, along with a whole buncha other people.

Franchi is making one, but only in 20 and 28.

Hell, if I got one it would be one of those two anyway. I'll have to look into that to add to my incredibly long list of shite that I want but can't afford.

Talked to a guy at Lafayette Shooters today about the the new A-5s and he said it could be up to a year before they get them on shelves.

I'm not sure if they've even started production on them yet.

I love my old one but I would not call it a "smooth" shooting gun. It is very accurate and very reliable but I currently have a huge bruise on my shooting shoulder from 4 boxes of ammo that I put through it yesterday. It is not a skeet gun only because it kicks so hard. That being said, I will get a new one when it comes out because I do love my old one.

Franchi has been making that particular gun since 1948, hence the name, 48L. They used to make a 12 guage version and I have one. It is pretty close to an exact copy of the A-5 except that it has a lightweight alloy receiver and is more modular for easy takedown and easier and cheaper manufacturing. It is a good example of how Browning could modify the design to produce a modern A-5 based on the old design.

The Franchi 12 I have weighs in just a tad bid over 6 pounds and its a pretty nice little shotgun to carry.

Buddy of mine has a Frianchi also. Lightweight but will get meat at both ends.

I have three of my dad's old Belgians. 12, 20 and 16. The 16 is probably the best shotgun I've ever shot.
