I shoot the 150 grain Core Lokts out of mine. If I ever go out west I'll shoot a heavier bullet, but the 150s are more than enough for whitetails.

I shoot Federal 160 gr. I know its a little much for whitetail, but I don't like to spend all day tracking!

I'm interested to see the responses on this also. I bought a 7 mag last year and have since shot 4 animals with it. I've shot the Federal Premium 140 grain Nosler Partition. Last year I shot 2 deer behind the shoulder and both ran about 80-100 yards, I was able to blood trail them both but wasn't impressed with the exit on either deer. This year I've shot 2 deer, both in the shoulder, both dropped but on one the bullet didn't exit and the other did but only made a hole a bit larger than a quarter.

I'm looking to change bullets.

If you are a hand loader, the 180g Berger VLD in 7mm is the best extreme distance (>500 yards) bullet on the market right now from a ballistic coefficient standpoint. In other words, it will maintain velocity better at distance. The 168g Berger VLDs are nice too.

I am also curious to see the responses! I was shooting 150gr Remington Premier Scirocco until I decided to change during this season. I used these for about 4 years but the last 3 deer I shot ran forever with very little exit wound. I have changed to Winchester Power Max but haven't had a chance to shoot anything with them yet. Has anyone used these?

Oh and first post to the OB! I have read for a while and just decided to comment!

I shoot a 7mm WBY WITH 154 gr spire points. I also used to have a friend reload some 165 gr. I like them both they grouped really well and killed deer effectively.

I shoot 140 federal premium. I've killed 300lb mule deer and an elk with 150s. 140 is plenty big enough

A 7mag is a damn bazooka in the whitetail woods. Just shoot the light (140-150) grain soft tip bullet that it likes the best. No need to shoot heavier than that unless you go after something bigger or it only likes heavy bullets.

I'm a huge advocate of federal blue box bullets. They are cheap, shoot very well, an perform very well.

^^Thats the exit hole from a 150gr 270 federal blue box at 80 yards^^
