I'm curious why he felt he should put Stoops' voting record in his last post, but did not have a similar anecdote for Miles.

Because he was full of shite and he knew the numbers wouldn't back up his argument.

2007 Final Coaches Poll

1.) Ohio State
2.) LSU
3.) Oklahoma
4.) Georgia
5.) VT

Les Miles 2007 Ballot

1.) LSU
2.) Ohio State
3.) Georgia
4.) VT
5.) Oklahoma

Now, did this shade things a little bit toward LSU? Sure. But Miles' top 5 is essentially in line with the poll. Stoops, on the other hand, voted two of his conference opponents higher and dropped LSU to #6 and USC to #7 to help his chances. He had #7 Mizzou at #3 and #8 Kansas at #4. He was the only coach who did not put LSU in his top 5.

What a douche.

Did you just make up this crap yourself? It's not surprising that you wouldn't provide a link. I was off by one spot. Stoops voted Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas #1, #3 and #4. I forgot about Ohio State who only had one loss and was #2 on his ballot. Here's Stoops' top ten in the final 2007 ballot:

1. Oklahoma
2. Ohio State
3. Missouri
4. Kansas
5. Virginia Tech
6. LSU
7. USC
8. Georgia
9. Arizona State
10. Hawaii

Stoops was the only coach that voted LSU that low.

LINK

Here are some other facts. In 2009, Miles voted undefeated Cincinnati #8, two spots lower than they were on any other coach's ballot and behind Oregon and Ohio State who both had two losses. Dan Mullen voted LSU #9, not only higher than anyone else but three spots higher than Miles voted them. And not only was Mullen one of only four coaches to give Ole Miss a vote, but he voted them #19, 13 spots higher than their others-receieving-votes overall ranking.

LINK

In 2010, Illinois' Ron Zook voted undefeated TCU #6 and Stanford #7 while voting Wisconsin, Ohio Sate and Michigan State #3, #4 and #5 respectively. Also, Stanford's Jim Harbaugh voted two-loss Oklahoma #5, two-loss Virginia Tech #6 while voting one-loss Wisconsin #8 and one-loss Michigan State #10. Nebraska's Bo Pelini voted his three-loss Cornhuskers #8, three spots higher than anyone else, and one-loss Michigan State #11.

It is funny that the reason that the coaches claimed that they did not want their final vote revealed was because the coaches wanted to be able to be honest without fear of political reprisal.

BS! Some of the looked like fools and did not want to be called out when things like this went down.

Exactly!, They didn't want anyone to know what hacks they were. There's no reason to fear revealing your ballot if it doesn't have an irregular pattern.

Nothing you just posted proves that miles is A hack. 2 spots off the average isn't a big deal.

If Bama beats Auburn and Wisconsin beats Penn State......

...it is probable that Bama would have beaten only ONE Top 25 team this year!!!

and...? The Bearcats got blasted by Florida in the Sugar Bowl 51-24 and ended up at #9 in the Final Coaches Poll. Looks like he had it just about right.

He wasn't two spots off the average, he was five spots off the average. He was two spots off the next lowest voter and that is a big deal. Normally there's very little variation in the votes recieved of the top five teams. It would be the equivalent of someone voting Alabama #7 in the current poll.

That is the most illogical, senseless argument I've ever heard. Cincinnati was undefeated and second in the computer rankings ahead of Texas and you're using an after-the-fact event to justify Miles' silly vote. Using that logic, Ohio State should have been ranked #6 in 2006 despite being the only undefeated team in the nation. Come one man.

The lack of quality wins by bama are what the majority of oSu fans are griping about. I have not heard one espn mention the fact that LSU has not beaten any good teams, other than Arky and Penn State.

Bama's best accomplishment this year was being able to take LSU to overtime, and lose in front of 100K of their own fans.

OSU is 6-1 vs. teams in the top 30 of the saragrin rating. Yes, Iowa State is 29.

I think their woodsheeding of Arkansas is their best accomplishment.

Maybe herbie is talking about next weeks bcs rankings. If not then Herbie is an idiot. There is easily a scenario that keeps bama out. If va tech loses and okie St wins bedlam, they only need approx 25% of the #2 votes in the human polls because of their strong computer ranking. To put okie St 2 at this point should not be a hard sell provided bama didn't even win the conf and will only have 1 quality win by this time to okie St 5.

This has been discussed over and over in this thread yet people who do this for a living don't see it or don't want to see it.

Yes, it was the same link, fricktard, but you asked for the link to the source of my info and I gave it to you. The fact that I was referencing the same exact source that you were, yet you implied that I "made it up"...oh, nevermind. Arguing with idiots with agendas is as pointless as telling a hair-raising story to a bald guy. We're off topic anyway. Flame on, I know you want to. I'm done.

We now rejoin our original topic.

Hey, something we agree on! Arkansas may have not been as strong at that point for various reasons, but it was still Arkansas and it was a significant win.

You are correct. Please drop kick the hogs, and then this win will not look as good for bama.

So IYO the purpose of the coaches poll is not to express an opinion on how good the teams are... it is to rank their records

That is a legitimate opinion but not one that some people share... a lot of people think it is about ranking how good you think the teams are more than how good their record is
