Make an afternoon waiting go by nicely.

This is what I've learned while in my stand last two days. Joe Pa scandal at Penn State, Joe Frazier dead, Nutt out at Ole Miss.

Only problem for me is i'm in the boon docks and reception is spotty at best so my battery drains quickly. Checking the in stand thread every 5 minutes doesn't help either.

This is my first year being able to hunt and check the OB. I could never go back to brickbreaker.

Thank you Technology.

ETA - Years ago, when I heard a shot, i had to wait a few hours to find out what happen. Now I know within minutes. Texting.

I have zero service where my land is in Bienville parish. I played alot of angry birds, bowling, and looking at the previously downloaded pics from the backchannel emails. Thanks guys!

Service is spotty depending on which stand I'm in. Pipeline stands do well where I'm sitting right now. I do notice the battery drain.

Mine is nothing more than a heavy clock and shitty camera at my place. With the exception of a select few hills on the trails and maybe 3 or 4 stands there's no cell service, much less internet or 3G.

Or until you look up from your smart phone just in time to see the back end of a deer ("Wonder if that was that nice buck that's been seen around here???) as it steps back in to the woods....

The service in Winn Parish has steadily improved over the years and now I can at least get spotty service on all my stands.

That's why I don't play games on mine
I've seen way too many deer walk out and leave without ever making a sound.

I know it is adouble edged sword. I like that it helps pass the time, but, I have been busted by a few deer due to looking down in my lap at phone then looking up to scan the area. I wish mine had a lanyard loop like many cameras do also. Having to put it back in a pocket sucks.

This. Especially pockets on bibs or a jacket, or if I'm wearing gloves. Usually though if I have mine out and it's cold enough to need hand warmers I just shove it into my QB handwarmer sleeve thing. Much easier/less movement than a pocket.

Don't think I've ever been busted by just picking my head up. Of course I haven't been bow hunting very long, usually rifle hunting deer are 40+yards out

Personally I prefer to listen to podcasts when I am hunting planted fields and areas where I really don't need my hearing. If I am hunting in close woods, that's not possible.

Damn people and their smart phones. Part of the reason I get in the woods is to get away from everything. Doubt we have coverage off the roads here anyway.
