I think the behaviors that caused the suspensions hurt our national image. Had they not occurred I would have said LSU hands down.
This.
No one takes the time to look into the details of the issues like the fans of the team do, so no one knows what #10 did to get suspended. If they did, they probably wouldn't care all that much, but as it is, they hear "suspended player" and think "dirty player." I know because I read the comments on the ESPN articles and that's the description other fanbases universally saddle LSU with--esp after the latest round. And maybe the memory would fade but for the helpful Timeline-of-off-field-activities CBS loves to highlight each and every broadcast, starting with the Shady's incident.

one thing is for sure - awareness is at an all time high (at least here in Charlotte).
i wear an LSU shirt every gameday and have been doing so since i moved here in 1997. the LSU shirts have always gotten attention, but nothing like this year. the guy behind the counter at the sandwich shop...the starbuck's barista, a passer-by at Target...doesn't matter where i go. When people see the LSU shirt these days, i hear LSYOO! constantly. Generally, there is a positive inflection in their voices.
moreover, i think the nation views LSU as sort of a team on its own island, unique among the rest of the nation. whether it's because we are associated with being 'Cajun' or because of our party reputation and close proximity to New Orleans, our lack of an in-state equivalent a la State/Ole Miss, Aub/AL, FL/FL St/Miami, we are somewhat of an alternative attraction to the rest of the college football world. the mystique created by the environment and perpetuated by our loveable, oddball coach, character players and our ability to 'overcome adversity' brings us a lot of goodwill that other schools simply cannot manufacture.
i will say this: loved or hated, it sure is better than being a national non-factor! and this week sure is a helluva lot better than the week/years following Jamie Howard's 3 pick six nightmare.

I know the Auburn fans and Tennessee fans are behind us. Seem like the majority of the sec will be as well

As grandiose as this sounds I thought LSU was ready to be "America's Team", what we used to see in Notre Dame and The Dallas Cowboys, I saw this happening.
I think recent negative events have slowed that but is still is possible, America loves what it views as an under-dog winner. But any more suspensions and that is over.

I think fans will likes LSU because of a bunch of the reasons mentioned above. People around the country just seem to like LSU, that party-hard, cajun, strong culural identity. The colors, Mike the Tiger, Tiger Stadium, infamous tailgating, all adds to a very interesting culture that is LSU.
LSU's team is also a lot more fun to watch than bama. People love to watch that defense. They fly around, make big plays and big hits. "Honey Badger" has brought a lot of attention too. Although some negative recently, people still like to watch him, he is fun.
Bama is like the Yankees in a way, and people don't cheer for the yankees unless your a Yankees fan for the most part.
I think the trouble LSU players have gotten in will hurt.
And I think CBS will play up the tornados as Bama overcoming adversity, however irrelevant it is, whcih might gain them favor.
Overall, I would say LSU.

I doubt anyone outside the SEC will bother to pull for one vs the other.
Not true.. My friends in Virginia's 11 year old for example, loves LSU. His bedroom is in purple and gold and his dream is to go to LSU. His dad went to Harvard and his mom went to NYU and they're scratching their heads.. It's because his golf coach is an LSU grad.

Go to St Louis, they don't know what college sports are about for the most part, with the exception of SEC school alumni.

I really believe everyone is tired of the Bear Bryant talk. So I believe most will pull for LSU.
Posted on 10/24/11 at 9:15 am to Rex
honestly probably neither. But If I had to pick probably alabama. LSU has been portrayed as the new "U" and I don't know how that will sit with folks in America.

Honestly, all bias aside, if I were watching this game I would be pulling for LSU. I really don't care to pull for the perceived old guard, or hyped up media darlings, which Bama is and will always be, as will USC, Notre Dame, Michigan, tOSU, and Texas whenever they have a great team. It's always the same and I get real tired of hearing it to be honest with you. O, bias aside, I pull for LSU.

Whom will the nation pull for: LSU or Alabama?
I like LSU in this game as lifelong fan. However, I would like the media to start the sentiment right now: IF by some chance Bama beats LSU, the two teams should swap spots in the BCS rankings.

this....bigtime. for a media outlet that supposedly has a working agreement to augment the image of the $EC, cbs goes out of their way to redundantly bring light on our slightest trangressions. funny, how they never mention "shoe boxes full of fifty's" as they regurgitate ad nauseum how wonderful bama is. any one who can't see the "special" relationship cbs has with bama and the SEC offices "in bama"....just ain't looking. it's as obvious as it is pathetic. they (cbs and $EC) negociate away our strongest traditions as they convienently erase the memory of traditional and systematic bama cheating. yeah, our kids screwed up discipline wise but bama and it's boosters subverted the integrity the game. frick them...frick cbs...frick the SEC.
