this should help the hockey ratings

It's looking as expected at this point. Right now it's a numbers game and there are clear breakpoints where you lose more than you gain by holding out. Once they start passing those break points and are being irrational, then it won't be looking good.

Where the hell is Stern standing on this? My business ignorance would have me guessing middle, yet its easier to get new players than new owners. So, im guessing he would be leaning towards the owners.
When he answered the question about the possibility of 82 games, he stumbled around yes, and concluded, fronting for Owners IMO.

Stern IS the owners. He has more power than any other commissioner.

That means no home games with the Bulls and Heat

Stern has always been pro owner. He's basically the CEO and the owners are the board of directors and can fire him if they don't like what he's doing. None of the owners want to lose the season but I think they're prepared to if the players don't give in enough. The question is what are the players holding out for? If they lose more than 10 weeks of games then it will be holding out for pride, because anything after the 10 week point means the deal keeps getting worse and there's no hope of getting back what they've lost. The only way the players have a shot at getting leverage is decertifying. They either need to pull the trigger or make a deal.

You are right. The owners have all the leverage and will break the players unless decertifying scares the owners.
But the owners have hardly negotiated in good faith. Their "concessions" are laughable at best. This is is a hold up and all b/c they wouldn't make enough money.

How will this affect the NBA in the short run and long run with the fans ?
I would think this will damage the NBA far more than it would damage the NFL?

After the 98 lockout, ratings were horrendous. No one knows if it was due to lockout or loss of Jordan or just a lack of marquee stars/poor quality.
When football ends and there is still a lockout, people will be pissed.

Horrible timing,'NBA was making it's way back.

Not finding that this is particularly affecting my day to day life in any way.

This is good. The NFL lockout went smoothly in part because they had a judge keeping both sides honest.
That will definitely help out. If given the chance to fart in the mouth of one owner and one player, I'd choose Peter Holt and Lebron James. I think they both deserve to eat farts right now.

Yep. Just wish they had done this about 2 months ago when nothing was going on.
